  1. I know the weather outside is frightful, but try Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, KC, etc. Enjoy the talent on your team, and the good season they are likely to have. Tribe currently in first place.
  2. Very cool, wish I had thought of this! Milwaukee, Milwaukee, gosh, for the life of me, I can't think of a single reason they would get 2 t-shirts, and Rollie Fingers image, instead of Oakland! How could one even consider such an enterprise without celebrating Oscar Gamble???
  3. Anywhere south of Philly? Say in our nation's capital??
  4. Thanks for the heads up. It was good to make it out and see Butch in person. Good job on the discographical spin through the years. Has inspired a new playlist with about 25 of the album titles you list, including what likely are several desert island picks of mine. Go Butch!!
  5. Hey Bertrand. I think I will try to make this after work this evening. First time for me on the UDC campus.
  6. Whatever. I saw Konitz for the first time at the Kennedy Center in November 2009 and the full house audience looked much like the photo above. No one appeared to leave early, and Lee and company were warmly received. Are we to conclude that DC is hipper than NYC? Or that Kennedy Center is hipper than Lincoln Center?
  7. Renaud and Solal arrived in great shape. Thanks for the quick delivery!
  8. PM sent on Renaud and Solal.
  9. ...great tune, haven't heard the Hancock version.
  10. And while the Browns had a disappointing 5-11 season, and the post-LeBron Cavaliers are going through a 1-35 stretch right now, the Indians are tied for first place! They impressively signed Austin Kearns (again) to a one year deal, and are seriously considering Kevin Millwood (again) or Jeremy Bonderman! Carlos Santana has been cleared to practice. Grady Sizemore is still a bit away. According to Chris Antonetti, "Grady is doing ground-based running activities and hitting in the cages." Which leads one to ask, what running activities are not ground-based???
  11. Bo wasn't available to moderate...
  12. Mosaic is a charity now???
  13. Man time flies, especially for our more experienced humans. I last saw Bobby as part of the 2006 SF Jazz Collective (the Herbie Hancock year). He looked in such great shape then, a vital force within a group of youngish allstars. I had a similar reaction a few years ago when I saw McCoy Tyner for the first time in several years. A bit shocked/saddened to see this old fellow [McCoy] shuffle onto the stage. Keep boppin' Bobby!!! (...if you remain up for it)
  14. Hey Rooster, Unfortunately, I too will not be able to make it then. If you finish unpacking early, the Lovano/Scofield performance at Strathmore (Grosvenor Metro stop on red line) starts at 8pm. Welcome to the neighborhood.
  15. Thanks. I had previously seen a much shorter description.
  16. I will also be at that show. Do you think Joe and John will primarily play separately with their own ensembles?
  17. For me, it is about 1700 jazz titles on CD. Probably about 200 more CDs (rock, classical, etc), and 50 or 60 LPs (mostly rock) that haven't been played for 25 years. This past year I decided to track how much I spent on jazz CDs. For 2010, I purchased 147 titles for about $1370, or about $9 an album. Not bad given that the list includes a number of the BS/SN compilations, Bill Evans boxes from Amazon/Newbury, etc. Great majority still came from ebay, though organissimo posters were my second most used source. Nice to see that as a collector, I am a rank amateur compared to so many ...
  18. Up for any updates about upcoming releases. David Ayers reported the possibility of Anthony Braxton and Dave Douglas (on 24 Mar 2010), and Niko cited an Italian article that mentions Steve Lacy, George Lewis, Max Roach, and Don Moye (on 31 May 2010). Anyone have confirmations of forthcoming sets? Thanks for any additional info.
  19. Same here. At a Rose Records in suburban Chicago with my roommate who had a player. 4 or 5 BN cutouts which largely served as my intro to the label and the genre. Midnight Blue, The Real McCoy, Rollins at the Vanguard, maybe Adams Apple. Still among my absolute favorites, picked based on name recognition of players and/or how cool the cover looked.
  20. Me too. Going to a couple of theater performances with college friends, and generally chilling out (so to speak).
  21. Discs arrived in great shape. Thanks David!
  22. PM sent on Ingrid Jensen Project O Now as Then (Promo) Ingrid Jensen At Sea
  23. Absolutely. RIP Rapid Robert. A couple of months ago I saw an interview with Costas on MLBTV. Obviously taped, but not that long ago. Amazed at how coherent he was, his memory (he knew Ted Williams' BA against him, etc), his life force on full display. I have a signed copy of the windup photo that JS posted at the top of the thread.
  24. ...with plenty of tasty pork and beef products...
  25. That would be fierce. Just think of the intra-staff competition to be the alpha dog between Cliff and Roy. Until this past regular season I would have said Lee had a decent chance at being the better ace. But not after what RH accomplished this year. Rumors that the Indians considering Punto or Crede (represented by Boras) for third base. ...now back to our regular hysteria, already in progress...
