  1. Great find and great music! Now playing:
  2. I like a lot of vocalists of all styles, but I confess, Cassandra Wilson simply bores me to tears. I have never understood why she is such a favorite of the jazz critics. Now playing Disc 2 of 5 (plus 1 DVD) from
  3. and Disc 1 of 3 from
  4. A couple of recommendations: And if you are looking for essential education, this 4 CD Smithsonian set could be quite useful
  5. I really do have a fondness for this album, but I sometimes wonder if they indeed made the album they thought they were making. It's a mixed bag, with some tracks seeming to be rather straight forward while others are blissfully over-the-top. One track sounds like nothing so much as a moment from a very special episode of Family Affair in which Mr. French quietly sat down with a confused Buffy and Jody and calmly, reassuringly explained to them that "The Times They Are A-Changin'". 7. Just finished listening to (and really enjoying) this: which brings together 3 different recording sessions from 1944-59. Now playing Disc 2 from this:
  8. A large image, but I'm guessing many of you won't mind: Disc 1 of 2. Recordings from 2012 to 2015 in settings from Amsterdam to Zurich. It's hard nowadays to know what label released a CD. This one says, "The Copyright in this sound recording is owned by Melody Gardot, under exclusive license to Decca, a division of Universal Music Operations Limited. Manufactured and marketed by Verve Label Group, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc." So it a Decca release? a Verve release? Both companies logos appear on the cover. The music is okay. No radical reworkings of any of her songs. Most often thye just feel more intimate in these settings.
  9. Disc C, which encompasses 1946-48 recordings
