  1. First listen. Just arrived in the mail from nessa.com. Thanks to the forum members who recommended this.
  2. I really like that one. Bobo Stenson !!!
  3. Thanks! soulpope - You're referring to the tributes on Soul Note -- Regeneration and Change of Season ??? Or are you talking about something else?
  4. I like how they mix musical elements together so indiscriminately -- the whole kitchen sink -- but it somehow coheres. Like a surreal three-ring circus. I don't know Incipient ICP. Should I check it out? Yes. Hard to go wrong with Kikuchi, imo -- especially in early-70s. Carter's magnum opus. Which entry in the series is your favorite, Jim? On most days, I think I'd choose Fields. But they're all terrific.
  5. Now: ICP Tentet - Tetterettet (ICP/Corbett vs. Dempsey) Earlier this morning: Masabumi Kikuchi Quintet - End for the Beginning (Philips/Universal JP)
  6. Now playing: Hampton Hawes - The Two Sides of Hampton Hawes (JAS, 2 LPs) LP 1 - Originally released as High in the Sky featuring Leroy Vinnegar with Donald Bailey (Vault, 1970)
  7. Now this: Bunky Green - Places We've Never Been (Vanguard, 1979) Alto Saxophone – Bunky Green Trumpet, Flugelhorn – Randy Brecker Piano – Albert Dailey, Bunky Green (trk: B1), Ronald Kubelik (trk: B2) Bass – Eddie Gomez Drums – Freddie Waits Terrific.
  8. Now spinning: Warren Vaché - Polished Brass (Concord, 1979) Top-shelf swing revivalism. Having Cal Collins' guitar as the primary chordal instrument -- instead of a piano -- works very well, giving the music plenty of air. Vaché's cornet (and occasional flugelhorn) is front-and-center, and he makes some lovely sounds. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
  9. Now spinning: Dizzy in front of a big band is always exciting. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
  10. and Two masterpieces by Irene Kral.
  11. As ever with Stoki, these readings offer maximum COLOR and maximum DRAMA. Wondrous music-making.
  12. Thank you for that info.
  13. Nope. I've never had any sort of premonition like that.
  14. Lon, After you've had some time to listen to the set, I'd be VERY interested in hearing your impressions of the audio quality -- relative to previous releases. Since I've already got all of this music (aside from a few alt takes), the potential AQ improvement is going to be a big determining factor whether I spring for this set. NP:
