I just pre-ordered this LP from Dusty Groove: I've wanted to have a physical copy of this for years. I first heard it after downloading the music from the Magic Purple Sunshine blog. Remember that?!? . . . Along with this Eddy Louiss LP, that blog provided me with my first discovery of Martial Solal's music (and many others as well). Before streaming and before Discogs, downloading from blogs was pretty much the only way one could hear the majority of the MPS catalog (particularly if you lived outside of Europe). Aside from a few titles issued on PAUSA or Verve, it was almost entirely unavailable.

Next up: Duke Ellington - The Capitol Sessions, 1953-1955 I downloaded this MP3 set -- from emusic.com, I think -- a long time ago. I remember it because I couldn't afford the Mosaic Capitol set at that time (raising a family!), so this was my substitute. Pre-streaming days.

More Puente: Pictured above: Tito with vocalist Santos Colón, who sang with Puente for 17 years. Colón’s first recording with Puente was the giant hit, Dance Mania (1958). . . . In 1971, Colón left Puente's band (on good terms) for a solo career. This 1977 album was a reunion. Colón’s voice makes it sound like "classic" Tito Puente, which is appropriate given the album's retrospective theme. Outstanding stuff.

Wow! What a beautiful creature! My family & I live on a little creek that flows into a nearby floodplain, so we get all sorts of animals wandering through our neighborhood -- but NOTHING like that.

Outstanding performances of Ives' songs.

Maurice Ravel conducted by Jean Martinon with the Orchestre de Paris. Over the last few years, Martinon has become one of my favorite conductors. His approach to conducting has the (very French) transparency of Boulez but also the (well balanced) expressiveness of his teacher, Charles Munch. Others might deliver more color, but there's something very appealing (to me, at least) about the astringency that Martinon brings to the table. It's all a very potent combination, imo.
