  1. @Rooster_Ties, along with the Clifford Jordan that you point out, I think my favorite two-fer in this series is Kenny Drew's Dark and Beautiful, which pairs Dark Beauty with If You Could See Me Now. Both are trio sessions with NHØP and Tootie Heath from 1974.
  2. NP: Rod Williams - Hanging in the Balance (Muse, 1989)
  3. R.I.P. Sorry to hear this news.
  4. NP: Charles Tolliver - Mosaic Select 20 Disc 1 - originally released as Live at Slugs', Vols. 1 & 2 (Strata East)
  5. Is that a good album, optatio? I'm unfamiliar with it.
  6. I forgot to include these three on my list:
  7. More Takashi Kako: Takashi Kako - The Legend of the Sea-Myself (Trio/Solid, 1977) with Masahiko Togashi and others
  8. Takashi Kako - Passage (Trio, 1976) with percussionist Sabu Toyozumi
  9. It's an amazing run of albums, for sure. NP:
  10. Next up: Sonny Rollins - What's New? (RCA, 1962) Liebman's Ceremony echoes Sonny's "Jungoso" from this album -- instrumentation-wise and vibe-wise, if not exactly sound-wise (since Lieb comes out of Coltrane more than Rollins).
  11. Now playing: Dave Liebman - Ceremony (Chesky, 2014)
  12. Prompted by a post on another thread:
  13. Nice list, Peter! I could have easily included the Mike Wofford at Maybeck and John Lewis' Piano, Paris 1979 albums on my list too.
  14. Last night and again today: and
  15. Here's the discogs entry: https://www.discogs.com/master/1039903-Stan-Kenton-The-Comprehensive-Kenton No dates included in the listing, but it's all early stuff.
  16. Stan Kenton - The Comprehensive Kenton (Capitol, 2 LPs)
  17. Good call, mjzee. This one -- from around the same time, IIRC -- is also excellent: Not a thoughtless, color-by-number Ellington tribute. MUCH more than that.
  18. I'd vote for Black Glory too. . . . But I'd also lobby to include Mal Waldron Plays the Blues -- since it was made at the same gig, on the same day as Black Glory. They're companion records that go together. Good idea!
