  1. More Joe Lee Wilson: Shout for Trane (Trio/Whynot, 1976)
  2. I just streamed it for the first time. But I really enjoyed it! Hard to go wrong with Wilson, I think. He's such a joyous spirit. Also, Monty Waters (as, ss) and Ryo Kawasaki (g) are excellent in support.
  3. Bruce Gertz & Ken Cervenka - Shut Wide Open (Double-Time, 1998)
  4. Now playing: Watching the Dark: The History of Richard Thompson (Hannibal, 1993, 3 CDs) Disc 1 - includes a scorching live version of "Can't Win" Earlier, disc 2 from this Linda Ronstadt set: This is Linda's best stuff, imo.
  5. Next up: Batacumbele - In Concert: Live at the University of Puerto Rico (Montuno, 1988, 2 LPs) Inside gatefold (right): Such a great band!
  6. Now spinning: Arman Ratip - The Spy from Istanbul (Regal Zonophone, 1973) Mad About Records reissue
  7. I think Scherchen was a terrific conductor. Right on !!! 🙂
  8. Now playing: Chico O'Farrill and His Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra - Pure Emotion (Milestone, 1995)
  9. Good karma coming Eric's way.
  10. Interesting video. I had no idea that he'd been a boxer. R.I.P.
  11. I'm streaming this Art Hirahara new release after receiving a Posi Tone email about it this morning:
  12. Next up: Dr. Lonnie Smith - Spiral (Palmetto, 2010) with Jonathan Kreisberg (g) and Jamire Williams (d)
  13. Now playing: Blue Mitchell - S/T (Mainstream, 1971) with Jimmy Forrest (ts), Walter Bishop, Jr. (p), Larry Gales (b), and Doug Sides (d)
  14. Subjective musical value outweighs objective monetary value!
  15. I have the LP and the CD. You're right: There are two cuts on the LP -- "In a Mellotone" and "Summertime" -- that don't appear on the CD. Likewise, there are five cuts on the CD that aren't on the LP. Also, each format features different track sequencing. It's a jumble! That said, I think both the AQ and sequencing are preferable on the CD. As an album, the CD just works better. As for Shirley Scott organ playing on the Live at Rick's LP: I think that's mistake in Discogs. OTOH, I haven't heard the LP in a while, and my memory isn't what it used to be. Hmm. I'm not familiar with Truly Wonderful. . . . Might need to look into that.
  16. Originally released (with fewer cuts) as Live at Rick's on the Aviva label. Shirley Scott plays piano on this one. She sounds just as good on that instrument as she does on organ.
