  1. More synth-y stuff from Brasil:
  2. Mr. Bongo CD reissue
  3. Norman Simmons, piano; Lisle Atkinson, bass; Al Harewood, drums; Ralph Dorsey, percussion Vanguard Studios, New York City, March 12, 1976
  4. Oh, I understand that way of thinking, for sure. It doesn't make sense, but it makes complete sense. One note: There are actually four volumes in the series. I have three (so far), but I intend to get the fourth eventually to make my "set" complete!
  5. The original albums are re-sequenced across the different volumes. I think everything is there; it's just re-arranged. I wish the producers hadn't done that. But the music is so irresistible that I just roll with it.
  6. That one's on my list too. Yamashita's trio + Schoof. Can't hardly miss with that lineup. Hopefully, Solid will re-reissue sometime. In the meantime, it's YT.
  7. Now spinning: Dollar Brand / Abdullah Ibrahim - Tintinyana (Kaz Records UK, 1988) "The African Recordings" series, Volume 3
  8. Thanks for all that you do, Jim!!!
  9. 32 Jazz CD reissue and Arthur Blythe - Calling Card (Enja, 1995) with John Hicks, Cecil McBee, and Bobby Battle This is a companion disc to Blythe's Retroflection (Enja, 1994). Like that release, this album was recorded at the Village Vanguard in June 1993.
  10. Such a bummer when that happens!
  11. Tania Maria, Boto & Helio - Via Brasil, Vol. 2 (Barclay/Sunnyside, rec. 1975)
  12. Last night and again this morning: Bill Evans - Half Moon Bay (Milestone, 2006) with Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell; recorded at The Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society, Half Moon Bay, CA in November 1973 It seems like Evans' trio with Gomez and Morell doesn't get nearly as much love as his trios with LaFaro & Motian or Johnson & LaBarbera. But I still think Gomez & Morell made a terrific unit. Consider: - The Tokyo Concert. - Since We Met and Re: Person I Knew from the Vanguard. - Blue in Green: The Concert in Canada. - This album. All damn good records, imo.
  13. Next up: Jordi Sabatés & Factor Quántic - El Secret de la Criolla [The Secret of the Creole] (Grabaciones Accidentales, 1989)
  14. Baden Powell - Selección (Barclay/Movie Play, 2 LPs) A souvenir from my recent trip to Spain.
  15. Now: Dakota Staton - Confessin' (Groove Merchant, 2 LPs) LP 2 - originally released as Madame Foo-Foo (1972) - with Richard "Groove" Holmes
  16. Now spinning on my turntable: Paco de Lucia - Almoraima (Philips, 1976) Such a fantastic album! So many disparate things converging to make a unique stew -- just like the country of Spain itself.
  17. Sorry to hear this news. R.I.P.
