Now on my 'table:
Alan Broadbent Trio - Everything I Love (Discovery, 1986)
Overlook the dull-as-dishwater, Olan Mills-inspired cover. There's some excellent music here.
Per Discogs, it was recorded at Olivia Davis' Patio Lounge, Washington, D.C. on December 7, 1956. Vol. 1 of 4; issued on Pablo Live.
I now have vols. 1 to 3.
Still need vol. 4.
Two albums by Sheila Jordan -- her 1962 debut and then a leap to 2003:
and
I agree. And that album in particular is probably their finest hour (on record).
I dig it. It's a CD that I picked up a few years back when I went on a Jack Walrath kick.
It's nothing revolutionary -- however, it is exceptionally well-performed hardbop/postbop that pushes the envelope a little. Also, Walrath's compositions are always interesting.
Toshiko Akiyoshi-Lew Tabackin Big Band - Tanuki's Night Out (JAM, 1981)
Released as From Toshiko with Love in Japan
This Akiyoshi-Tabackin LP is a bit unusual because all of the compositions are by Lew Tabackin.
