  1. And more Carmen: Glad to hear that they resolved your problem quickly. It's no fun when goodies arrive and they're defective. So good for them ... and good for you.
  2. Oh yeah. The Magnificent Goldberg hipped me to Out 'Dere. It's one helluva record. The other (non-Prestige) Jimmy Forrest record that gets pulled from my shelf regularly: Later reissued on a Muse CD. Good idea. I'm overdue to give that a spin.
  3. Spinning this again: Carmen McRae / Dave Brubeck - Take Five: Recorded Live at Basin Street East (Columbia Special Products)
  4. That Gulda LvB cycle is reaaaaaaaallly gooooooooooooood. IMO.
  5. So true. As a younger person, I tended to gravitate more towards E.S.P. and Miles Smiles. ... Now, I don't think there's anything better than Nefertiti. Not just in Miles' music. In ANY music.
  6. Antibes, 1963
  7. I just checked discogs, and I didn't see it. Do you have the URL BFrank? The least expensive CD copy I could find in the US is $89, a Japanese import. Yes. This.
  8. Susannah McCorkle - How Do You Keep the Music Playing? (PAUSA/Jazz Alliance, 1985) Al Cohn sits in on several cuts and Shirley Horn - I Thought About You: Live at Vine St. (Verve, 1987)
  9. Wow. That's cool !!! Where did you see him perform?
  10. Very strange. Hopefully, the smell will disperse with time. I know that's happened for me in the past -- a good airing resolves the issue. But I've never had any musty smells with a new LP before.
  11. No odors -- or any issues at all -- with mine.
  12. NP: The Singers Unlimited - Masterpieces (MPS, rec. 1971-1980) I've never been able to get much of a foothold on this group. But I'm giving it another go with this compilation.
  13. Rab, If you're wanting to hear some of Rahsaan's most impressive playing as a soloist, I would suggest listening to Brotherman in the Fatherland. RRK plays with startling intensity on that one.
  14. Among the Prestige/New Jazz sessions, Forrest Fire is probably tops for me too. Out of the Forrest with Zawinul is terrific also.
  15. Now playing this newly-released Brubeck CD, courtesy of a fellow forum member & friend who gave it to me. Thanks Ken !!!
  16. Honestly, from my perspective, that line-up isn't "underwhelming." I really like Claudio Roditi and Calvin Hill. And I don't understand why Cecil Bridgewater comes in for so much stick. Obviously, Max liked him. I dug the music -- especially the closing track (the title cut). But it was only my first listen, so it's way too early for me to make any judgments.
  17. Now chilling out with Mongo: Craft LP reissue. Just arrived in the mail today.
