  1. Thanks for the heads-up, Eric.
  2. Matt Wilson's Arts & Crafts - The Scenic Route (Palmetto, 2006) I think Matt Wilson does a great job of putting across a very clear personality in his music -- both in his compositions and his playing. A friendly whimsicality and everyday good folks-y feeling. "Arts & Crafts" is a perfect name. ... Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's got/had such stellar musicians in his group. Terell Stafford, Gary Versace, and Dennis Irwin. (R.I.P.) Wish I would've bought that CD back in the day. Now, you've got pay a king's ransom for it! ... Maybe it'll get reissued one day.
  3. First listen: Michel Petrucciani - Note'n Notes (Owl, 1984) Solo piano
  4. NP: Cal Tjader - Tjader (Fantasy, 1971) Ed Bogas came up the other day when we were talking about his arrangements on Gene Ammons' Got My Own. Bogas arranged the horns on this Cal Tjader date -- and produced the album too. I do like his work.
  5. yep. a pair of lions.

  10. Shirley Scott with Stanley Turrentine - The Great Live Sessions (ABC Impulse) Sides C & D originally released as Queen of the Organ
  11. Thanks for the clarification/correction, Mark. Since Hayes resurrected the name, I'd assumed that he was the de facto leader of the group.
  12. Eddie Fisher & the Next One Hundred Years (Cadet, 1970) Not the guy who fathered Princess Leia and then scandalously left Debbie Reynolds for Liz Taylor. This is the other Eddie Fisher.
  13. The "Jazz Communicators" band was led by Louis Hayes. See here: https://jazztimes.com/reviews/albums/louis-hayes-jazz-communicators-lous-idea/ His version of the "Jazz Messengers"?
