  1. Last night, I finished Max Gordon's memoir, Live at the Village Vanguard. I enjoyed it. Gordon is an adept storyteller and writer. I only wish the book were longer! Today, I started reading Carlos Santana's autobiography, The Universal Tone.
  2. Delightfully uncategorize-able music. Anyone who enjoys Airto's music should hear Opa. His fingerprints are all over these records.
  3. So sorry to hear this sad news. R.I.P. and THANK YOU for the music.
  4. Perhaps. ... I never had a chance to see the ERM. I was just a kid when Woods disbanded the group and returned to the U.S. ... But I think they made some impressive recordings -- including the one I posted above. An excellent record, IMO.
  5. More Jaws: Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis & Johnny Griffin - Live at Minton's (Prestige) with Junior Mance, Larry Gales, and Ben Riley
  6. It's always FUN to rediscover stuff that's already in your collection.
  7. NP: Man, this is hitting the spot! I think Vol. 2 is even better than Vol. 1. ... And I think Vol. 1 is really, really good!
  8. Amazing music. NP:
  9. Two of the finest Chopin recordings I've ever heard ...
  10. Oh yeah, I have The Village Caller and like it very much. But my favorite Johnny Lytle recordings are his two Milestone LPs, compiled on this CD: Available from Real Gone Music.
  11. Scratching a Max Roach itch. with Booker Little and George Coleman and with Hank Mobley and Kenny Dorham -- and Ramsey Lewis (!) Adding it to my list.
  12. More Eric Dolphy & Booker Little: and Prompted by another thread.
  13. Rooster, Danny Moore also plays very well on Strozier's next album for SteepleChase, What's Goin' On. ... I like that album even more than Remember Me. (Not for Moore's work in particular; just in general.)
  14. A desert-island disc.
  15. Good idea! Yes. Same here.
