  1. I'd be on that like white on rice.
  2. So strange that this has never been reissued. It's one of McDuff's best ever, IMO. Along with Myrick & Young, don't forget Frederick "Derf" Walker on congas!
  3. I really dig this one -- Mike Richmond's Dream Waves: Originally recorded for Sonet in Norway in 1977 and then issued on Inner City vinyl in the U.S. But never on CD. LaVerne, Richmond, and Hart were Stan Getz's rhythm section at the time. You can tell they've been playing together. They are LOCKED IN. Before hearing this, I had a false impression that Richmond was competent but not especially forceful or memorable. This LP disabused me of that notion. This same trio released Another World on SteepleChase under Andy LaVerne's leadership. Recorded around the same time, it's also outstanding. felser, I would LOVE to see the review that you mentioned here, referring to JackieMac's Monuments. Anyone have access to it???
  4. I bet it's great.
  5. Last night: A grab bag of Duke, mostly from 1937. Years ago, this CD was one (of a couple) that prompted my breakthrough in "getting" Ellington. Therefore, it's now one of my most treasured. And, even though I own all of this music on the big Mosaic set, I will never get rid of this particular disc. This morning: Really grooving to this lately. A sort-of sequel to Baron's Down Home.
  6. More Eddie Harris.
  7. John Lewis & Svend Asmussen - European Encounter (Atlantic, 1962) Jazzlore series reissue Years ago, I had the cassette tape version of this release. It's long gone. But I recently found a still-sealed copy of the LP for a couple bucks. ... Nice to hear it again.
  8. with Muhal Richard Abrams on electric piano and Rufus Reid on bass
  9. NP: I wonder: Why the extra "e" at the end of Newborn? ... Don't they know it's bad form to misspell a musician's name on his own record!
  10. Gato Barbieri - Chapter Four: Alive in New York (Impulse, 1975) The last entry in Barbieri's superb 1973-75 run on Impulse. The MAGIC TRIANGLE!
  11. Hadn't thought of that. But you're right. Only it wouldn't be "crooked"!
  12. Let's hear it for Larry Willis! Oh yeah.
  13. Jessica Williams - Update (Clean Cuts, 1982) with Eddie Harris
  14. Now: A desert-island disc. Earlier:
  15. Sunday afternoon coffee. 😊
