  1. Yep. Very much like Altschul's other Muse release, You Can't Name Your Own Tune.
  2. Barry Altschul - "Another Time / Another Place" (Muse, 1978)
  3. Some CDs I've ordered recently:
  4. Eddie Palmieri - Vamonos Pa'l Monte (Tico, 1971)
  5. Last I heard, Broadbent had moved from L.A. to NYC. That accounts for the title of this 2019 release: So I guess Broadbent is still an expat -- unless he's become a U.S. citizen.
  6. Music by Sergei Prokofiev: - Pieces for Piano from "Romeo & Juliet", Op. 75 - Piano Sonata No. 2
  7. Wow. What a lot of detective work this guy has done!
  8. Yes, it's a stark contrast between his two instruments, isn't it?!? Now playing: James Moody - Never Again! (Muse, 1972) with Mickey Tucker on organ Moody had such a distinctive and soulful sound. I could listen all day and never get tired of it.
  9. Duke Ellington - Soul Call (Verve) Verve Master Edition with bonus tracks Oh man, "La Plus Belle Africaine"!!! Lamb and Carney are great, but Jimmy Hamilton is the one who really gets me.
  10. How about this?
  11. and Not coincidentally, both of these records feature Arthur Blythe.
  12. New blood is good. 👍
  13. Johnny Griffin. Art Farmer. Steve Lacy. Phil Woods. Mal Waldron. Benny Bailey. Sidney Bechet. Sahib Shihab.
  14. Vaughan Williams: Sym. No. 5; Flos Campi; Oboe Concerto / Handley, RLPO, et al (CfP) Handley's RVW is the bee's knees.
  15. Prime Larry Willis !!!
  16. Last night and again this morning: Béla Bartók: Works for Piano Solo 1 / Zoltán Kocsis (Philips) Amazing performances.
  17. These are (originally) Vogue recordings, right? Also released on Inner City LPs, no?
  18. Outstanding music! Striking cover image too.
  19. All three of Merrill's collaborations with Dick Katz are recent "Wow!" discoveries for me. NP: I've been hoovering up all the music that Tsilis and Arthur Blythe made together. This is one of their finest collaborations, IMO. Earlier: The tunes are all brief and barely any space is allocated to soloing, so this music comes off a bit 'straight-jacketed.'
