Last I heard, Broadbent had moved from L.A. to NYC.
That accounts for the title of this 2019 release:
So I guess Broadbent is still an expat -- unless he's become a U.S. citizen.
Yes, it's a stark contrast between his two instruments, isn't it?!?
Now playing:
James Moody - Never Again! (Muse, 1972)
with Mickey Tucker on organ
Moody had such a distinctive and soulful sound. I could listen all day and never get tired of it.
Duke Ellington - Soul Call (Verve)
Verve Master Edition with bonus tracks
Oh man, "La Plus Belle Africaine"!!! Lamb and Carney are great, but Jimmy Hamilton is the one who really gets me.
All three of Merrill's collaborations with Dick Katz are recent "Wow!" discoveries for me.
NP:
I've been hoovering up all the music that Tsilis and Arthur Blythe made together. This is one of their finest collaborations, IMO.
Earlier:
The tunes are all brief and barely any space is allocated to soloing, so this music comes off a bit 'straight-jacketed.'
