  1. Finzer recently played a local club here in Atlanta. I couldn't attend, but a trombone-playing friend of mine went. He got me this sounvenir from the show. Good stuff.
  2. A few weeks ago, I ordered this Japanese import: Any Clare Fischer fan needs to hear it. The music AND sonics are OUTSTANDING.
  3. Agreed. Now spinning more from Wallington: George Wallington - Our Delight (Prestige, 2-LP set) LP 1 - Trios with either Charles Mingus, Oscar Pettiford, or Curly Russell (b) and Max Roach (d); originally released as two 10" LPs: - George Wallington Trio, recorded Sept 1952 - George Wallington Trio, Vol, 2, recorded May 1953
  4. Erroll Garner - Magician (MPS, 1973) as reissued on
  5. Brad - If you make it to the store, let us know what you find. I've been to the PREX one time, 20-some-odd years ago, and I came away with a big haul of LPs -- both jazz and classical.
  6. More by Junior Mance:
  7. Bobby Hutcherson - In the Vanguard (Landmark) with Kenny Barron, Buster Williams and Al Foster I haven't listened to this in a long time. Man, it sounds GOOD.
  8. Last night: Mike Richmond - Dream Waves (Inner City / Sonet) with Andy LaVerne & Billy Hart Excellent.
  9. Keystone Trio [John Hicks, George Mraz, Idris Muhammad] - Newklear Music: The Songs of Sonnny Rollins (Milestone) John Hicks!
  10. Superb. NP: If I'm just taking one Steve Lacy disc to my desert island, it's probably this one.
  11. Richie Beirach - Ballads and Ballads II (Sony Japan)
  12. Oh man! You're right! And I've already got that. Doh!
  13. Wonderful music. Awesome 'stache. The LP is particularly worth searching for if you're a Joe Farrell-phile. Oh yeah!
  14. I've enjoyed that one. If you like Rubalcaba's other work, I think you'd like Diz. One track stands out in my memory: We've all heard "Con Alma" a million times, but Rubalcaba does something different with it. It's very still, almost like a Chopin nocturne. It's the highlight of the disc, imho. I'm also fully on board with the Ralph Peterson recommendations -- the Fo'tet stuff and Triangular, which features Geri Allen.
  15. Franco D'Andrea - Quartet Live / My Shuffle (Red) with Tino Tracanna, Attilio Zanchi, and Gianni Cazzola
  16. Hans Koller, Attila Zoller, Roland Hanna - Trinity (L+R, 1979) Terrific.
