  2. David Binney & Edward Simon - Océanos (Criss Cross)
  3. I don't have any suggestions to contribute. But it sounds like it will be a very interesting program!
  4. Challenge CDs often have excellent sonics. Couldn't help but notice that again listening to this one. Fantastic music as well.
  5. Ben Allison & Medicine Wheel - Riding the Nuclear Tiger (Palmetto, 2001)
  6. Cecil Taylor (p); Jimmy Lyons (as); Raphe Malik (tr); David S. Ware (ts); Marc Edwards (d)
  7. Back to jazz: Jimmy Forrest with Shirley Scott - Heart of the Forrest (Palo Alto; reissued on Muse) Trio with drummer Randy Marsh, recorded in '78.
  8. Back in my high school days, I spent a lot of time listening to prog rock. Poking around in a thrift store the other day, I came across one of Rush's (relatively) recent albums, Snakes & Arrows, from 2007. I decided to take a flyer on it, and I'm glad I did -- because it RAWKS. Seriously. This is excellent heavy rock/prog rock that hearkens back to Rush's glory years. The last Rush record that I listened to closely was Power Windows. And that came out in, er, . . . 1985. . . .Yeah, it's been a while.
  9. Fred Anderson - The Missing Link (Nessa)
  10. For sure. He says, "after students graduate, it's open season"?!?! Yikes! Talk about being tone deaf to what's happening. Sheesh.
  11. Shirley Scott with Harold Vick & Billy Higgins - One for Me (Strata-East, 1974)
  12. Tito Puente and his Concert Orchestra (Tico/Fania, 1973)
  13. Franco D'Andrea - Nuvolao (Carosello, 1978) Claudio Fasoli / Franco D'Andrea - Jazz Duo (Dire, 1978) Enjoying both of these very much. Franco D'Andrea is an excellent pianist. Has anyone heard any of the CDs from D'Andrea's "Solo" series on Philology? I haven't -- but they look very interesting.
  14. Bobby Vince Paunetto - Paunetto's Point (Pathfinder/RSVP) with Tom Harrell, Ed Byrne, Billy Drewes, Ronnie Cuber, Andy Gonzalez, et al
  15. I'm listening to Jug too. Gene Ammons - Boss Tenor (Prestige)
  16. Wow. I've read about RVG getting angry at musicians for putting their drinks on his piano -- but I didn't realize that he was that persnickety. NP: Teddy Wilson - Striding After Fats: A Tribute to Fats Waller (Black Lion, UK vinyl) I'm no Wilson expert, but this is the best late-period TW that I've heard.
