  1. Yep! Now listening to some late-period Brubeck:
  2. Fantastic! I wish Elemental would've reissued this one in their Xanadu series. NP: Louie Bellson Big Band - Inferno! (Concord) Disc 2 - Originally released as Dynamite!
  3. I agree 100%. Yep! As close as we're going to get to sitting in a bar full of jazz fans, shooting the breeze, hearing who likes what.
  4. I'm looking forward to hearing this: Being released by Sunnyside on September 29th. Bandcamp page here.
  5. I'm with you, kh. I like Horn Culture too. I'm also thinking of the old saw, "One mans trash is another man's treasure." One of the glories of music is its subjective value. Bobby's only dud (imho): Much of the blame goes to Wade Marcus. I'm no fan of his arrangements here.
  6. Martial Solal - Nothing But Piano (MPS) Another solo piano recital by a Frenchman. Solal's approach is very different than Petrucciani's, much more digressive and witty. I love them both.
  7. Michel Petrucciani - 100 Hearts (Concord / George Wein Collection) Terrific solo piano, full of joie de vivre.
  8. Sir Roland Hanna is one of my very favorite musicians -- and he was remarkably consistent. But this LP is a stinker. Even the cover art is bad.
  9. Don Menza Quintet featuring Frank Rosolino - First Flight: Complete Recordings (Catalyst / Fresh Sounds) Thanks to the forum member who hipped me to this record. (I don't recall who it was.) I saw it on this thread a few weeks ago and decided to spring for it. Sounds good so far!
  10. Bill O'Connell - Rhapsody in Blue (Challenge) Really enjoying this lately.
  11. More WS with Tone Jansa: Tone Janša Quartet featuring Woody Shaw - Dr. Chi (Timeless)
  12. Listening to this again: Woody Shaw with Tone Jansa Quartet (Timeless)
  13. Arthur Barron & Dave Liebman - The Miami Jazz Project (Zoho)
  14. The Dave Brubeck Trio - 24 Classic Original Recordings: Distinctive Rhythm Instrumentals (Fantasy) with Cal Tjader
  15. Chick Corea - Solo Piano, Part Two: Standards (Stretch / Concord) Earlier today: Keith Jarrett - Solo-Concerts: Bremen / Lausanne (ECM) Disc 1
  16. John Scofield - Time on My Hands (Blue Note)
  17. Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Joe Farrell - Three-Way Mirror (Reference Recordings) Not surprisingly, this sounds a bit like the first iteration of Return to Forever.
  18. Love that LP! NP: Misha Tsiganov - Spring Feelings (Criss Cross)
  19. Cal Tjader - Cuban Fantasy (Fantasy) Live recording of Tjader's wonderful late-70s band with Clare Fischer & Poncho Sanchez.
  20. More music from a certain Hungarian guitarist: Attila Zoller - Dream Bells (Enja) with Frank Luther (b) and Sonny Brown (d); recorded live at the Domicile in '76.
  21. Orrin Evans - ". . . It was beauty" (Criss Cross) Orrin Evans is a remarkable musician, particularly in a trio setting. This one and Flip the Script are both five-star records, imho. Attila Zoller - When It's Time (Enja) with Lee Konitz, Larry Willis, Santi Debriano and Yoron Israel
  22. This means that Concord now owns all of the Muse catalog -- except for the few titles owned by Don Schlitten -- correct?
  23. Keith Jarrett - Mysteries / Shades (ABC Impulse)
  24. Steve Turre - Right There (Antilles) with John Blake (vn); Akua Dixon Turre (vc); Buster Williams (b), Billy Higgins (d); and others.
