  1. yup and the inability of the dealers to accept tokens This is and was a common issue I guess These at the least were paying gigs and cash I suppose BUT what a gorgeous set it was!!
  2. hey lets go outside and settle this in the yard! chill dudes guy justs needs bringin in line or showing the door :bwallace2:
  3. Perhaps a question like Could anybody help me locate Grant Greens Carryin on ? may induce a little more support Oh yes and sort out your bad deals from the past or its no go
  4. I can support the recommendation. Early Records have been very good with me over the years and very reliable. As far as England goes..........(sharp intake of breath ) Manchester used to have Decoy records but they are I think gone now........Vinyl Experience .....good ish for 2nd hand.....King bee ( in Manchester) where I flogged loads of my old OJCs but years ago. Birmingham used to have a jazz shop .....cannot remember the name that did good japanese reissues but we are talking 10 years ago?? Soul Brother Records did mail order.....but a little pricy... Ebay wiped a few of em out as they were all a little pricey I thought Zweitausendeins (german mail order) did ojc lps but I might be worng.....(frequently am!) Go with the ones from True Blue or Fantasy direct....or concord whoever has em now Failing that.....its ebay As for Blue Notes......well.....that would be telling
  5. Hmmmmm Never looked at it that way before I must admit I bought the cd years ago when it first came out and loved it ever since. Thought it was a cracking set in all......Moontrane in particular.......maybe it because I liked bum A notes
  6. Bought it when it came out on cd in Japan and never listen to it that much but its not that bad either. However Blue Note has released a lot worse domestically so as for this one ....who knows.......best go and stick it on again for that extra scientific audit that I am famed for .......
  7. Yeh I missed this the first time around...dunno why.......just downloaded and its kickin.....and so is the other one (awakening).....also snagged a grachan moncur lp ......exploration.....sounds nice too! Three in one day on a free (re) trial
  8. Shame on us Penance shall be to listen to more John Patton
  9. oh my god .......had these two for years and never realised I need to get out less!
  10. People seem to be disappearing up their rear ends on this one. Whether you like it or not is up for debate without all the other clap trap pseudo re writes of Blue Note history. Not the greatest tune on Blue Note...what should be??...I do not care . All that I know for sure is when this tune comes on.........old Andy's foot starts tappin' Good enough for me any road. Infectious at its best in my opinion......and yes sure there are other much more lovely Morgan records but this one .........from the intro til the end has me after all these years --since I first heard it gets me movin'
  11. I think there are loads ....got the Ruppli thing which gave me loads of things to drool over Check the online guide though as its easier There are shed loads of Gene Ammons and Sonny Stitt things and all the groove holmes and jack mcduff stuff I think there would be a few years left at least of OJCs should they ever continue
  12. actually it sounds like complete rubbish ( I will use a clean word) if you ask me. No disrespect intended and all that. Surely an example of a going concern having gone. Nothing more. Better than some firms I am more than sure
  13. I personally do not think the evidence will stand up in court
  14. Cannot wait for the Hutcherson and the Andrew Hill I had most of the Hutch on LP and then sold them but kept most on cdr so its good to get nice clean copies of what I think is an overlooked period which is marked as being 70's therefore not so hot. The Andrew Hill is an unexplored era for from his work so I also look forward to hearing that also. Bit more of a treat I guess as its all new to me like some of the earlier mosaics used to be Thumbs up all round Mosaic
  15. Not in Britain. There's a doctrine about "reasonable force" over here, which generally doesn't include killing someone, unless you can show that your own life really depended on it. There have been a few celebrated cases here in which even wounding a burglar with a gun has led to prosecution and guilty verdicts. Nobody agrees with this. However, the implication of the alternative is that people start arming themselves and this seems like the thin end of the wedge in creating a society like the US. So, in this case, I think I side with the narrow interpretation of what a person can be allowed to do. MG and make sure self defence is self defence not shoot em in the back when they turn their back! which I believe was what the chappie in question did in the UK Back to the US Not sure how I would respond to a blokey comig at me with a gun and I think he should have had an exhaust pipe inserted to remind everybody where he got caught! As for the law about dragging em back in your house , it reminds me of when I used to work with people in hostels years ago and the paperwork when the committed suicide was that bad a colleague murmured about dragging out on the street before ringing the police. Also reminds me of the story (probably myth) of the Transport policearguing that people who through themselves from train bridges were only dead when they hit the ground...hence it was a normal police matter not Transport Police who were only interested if they died on the train or tracks
  16. yeh I remember reading about hell holes like these where the poor workers are supposed to keep their tools/knives sharp in their own time which usually means that they get blunt and then they really start to hurt themselves as they need to be very sharp and blunter knives lead to more accidents. It is a shame to think that this goes on but when we judge food by price alone there is no other way unless we target the factories and look to increase better conditions. Shame on them
  17. but file sharing like this could be a copyright infringement.... just imagine if someone stole the files and made a COPY of my children ...oh god...that could be awful
  18. Jazztastic!
  19. Oh boy I remember mine.....it was when I had finished selling up the LPs and had enough left over to go bonkers at Mosaic! ( I had stashed mosaic fund away as I had so much US cash from Ebay sales (pre Paypal in the UK then !) that I sent it across in a small envelope and also got one repeat buyer to pay me in credit at mosaic .....so I thought I had been strict enough for too long and got the Andrew Hill, Hank Mobley, Elvin Jones and I think one other (cannot remember) ...all I do remember was selling the LPS had been a real and I mean real loss. So they were ordered up and the very nice people put total value $20 and they snuck in past customs Nya nya nya na na! What a lovely box that was! Never felt as rich since......the thought of sending several bundles of cash now gives me the shakes...uninsured....I also sent similar amounts of $ to Mundo jazz and Early records in Japan...in a magazine!!! We have come a long way with Paypal and the like really since then ( i never even had a credit card then!)
  20. Nice set...got all the cds save for a cdr ( )of cosmos so I will be definately getting this one and binning that...I did like his later stuff I must admit so this is a good choice I had the LPs previoulsy so this is third time now..... I had better get on and sell the cds I guess Andy
  21. Now that is a surprise that this is coming out. WOW! Cannot wait Pre- Order going in as we speak New live grant green Life just got better
  22. Na I never liked the Gerald Wilson and should have steared clear of that one. I also bought and rarely play the Jimmy Smith one ( I like Houseparty,Sermon,Open House etc) but the set never moved me at all. I bought , liked , then went off the JJ Johnson set although maybe I go through periods with that one so leave that off Maybe just the G Wilson and the Smith Mind you I do try to get a listen to some of the unknown stuff before I order .....so with Blue Note it was always a safe bet for me....with the Jack Teagarden....Count Basie...not my my bag really so cannot comment I do regret there decision not to do a whole John Patton-a-thon type of box which I think could have given him rightful place. I also think they were a little daft not cashing in on the Grant Green/Lee Morgan/Hank Mobley popularity and issuing more of the commercial stuff in smaller box sets ...but that is a business decision I guess....I thought they could have made a little more cash that way Lastly I have spent many a time thinking that the japanese showed a real edge in marketing the 1500/4000 series on lp and cd........imagine a set of sets on these...outtakes/interviews/real notes/photos/essays etc I know the objections but they were a real legacy that could have been mined more deeply You imagine how using the resources available to Mosaic and techie advances how the Japanese could have made a real nioce set...if they could ...so could Mosaic...couldn't they My point in case is the Monk trane release recently...with video plugs/interviews etc...I just think that perhaps the ol Black box approach could do with a brush off and spruce up ....and ( bet you wish you had never asked now!) I could never understand and still do not why they do not put the artwork of the releases in the booklet...they have started to do this with the select sets and it works.... SO there is my two pennies worth Next?
  23. Yup , the piano never sounded right for me , even on the cd but it was better than my vinyl version I used to have. ( if I am allowed to use those words in this forum!)
  24. I thought it at least warrents the RVG treatment Actually I always liked Suzanne Vega when I was about 18-19 way back when she did Small Blue Thing and Solitude Standing I also liked Edie Brickhall ( or however it is spelt) AND never fell out with my Norah Jones cds which I have to say I always think paid suits enough cash to help Blue Note sneak out a few nicities like the Andrew Hill reissues etc....even if it ain't true.... I mean ...they had Van the Man , before that they had Marlena Shaw after Dodo Greene and other singers.... At least she can sing.... Shame they missed Ian Dury in my opinion
