Kenny Dorham's Blue Lament. 1961 unissued BN session.
andybleaden replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Discography
and I am not jealous about the KD sides either In fact this reminds me of the thread .wayyy back when, when someone listed all the unissued sessions from the discography that were unissued not rejected...these I guess were rejected which is another matter Is there a running tally of what bootlegs there are out there? ( So i can keep my eyes well away) -
Me too Judging by the wonderful stuff that came out on Westbound/Eastbound ( never get it right way round) this should have been an absolute sorcher AND in some of the notes I have seen , mention is made of a tv show with this group playing live Any more info rewarded with life peerage in the house of lords ( usual fees apply) There are several of these 'unissued' sets that got snuck out ...not that I am jealous , I mean I do not even collect Blue Note records , or any jazz for that matter Glad to see someone on here has got em anyway Way to go
-
you would have to convert the stuff if it is in that AAC format which I am sure any decent pirate worth a peg leg and eye patch could do. I have got stuff to try from people in that format and converted it but it is a little tricksy There are also anomolies with Itunes UK and elswhere that I never understood or like which is why i never use the thing anymore......too invasive of my system for its own good. I tried again a while back and got even grumpier! As for 6o gb Ipods....I would hang on in there for next generation stuff and get a cheap stand in for now

Well as my wife knows full well , I never ever buy any jazz cds and so I am sure that as a once of I could use this very new sounding store, which I have never heard of ( even though I already appear to have an account ) and help in the boards finances -
Good grief that is alot of live recordings I thought my 5 or 6 bootlegs was a big collection I wonder if there is one for Lee Morgan or John Patton like that

Your posters and photos
andybleaden replied to HolyStitt's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Do not have any originals but I do have a whole heap of the Wolff photos from a variety of sources framed around the house ( when I can get special permisssion from wifey!) My best was a a collection of the postcards they did of some of his photos which I put together in groups of six and they are probably my favourite second to a few I have from calenders upstairs which I stuck 12 by 12 prints in, some were lp covers some were wolff prints Not enough room in my house for more ....unless I take some of hers down, let me see if she will notice .... -

erm yeh sorry forgot to put their website up Excellent site although they have really changed in the last few weeks with new scans for rear covers...and they seem to have taken the japanese lp pressings off , you know like the KING series with Japanese only issues..unless they have run out of space...one of my fav sites ...save for this one really good for those rare scans for hard to find lps or mosaic sets where I never got to see the original lp let me know if you see the japanese blue notes anywhere Andy
-
Sorry larger scan on the front than I remembered Here is the rear with more details Andy

Yeah I have this and it is nice, a strange affair for Bobby but better than some of his later BNs Here is some more details courtesy of those wonderful people at Gokudo ( notice now they have all the back liner notes for blue notes )

anyone around there ( or here ) now....I guess all the us guys are wrapped up in bed with their kenny g records on in the background -
Yeh ! Why the **** does my wife think this is unreasonable I was planning ( would not dare) to have a Creative Jukebox 30gb ( which I have already and it is brilliant!! ) for the Blue Note collection, one for the ECm collection, one for classical and one of course for a mixture of Prestige /Riverside and maybe Savoy . I guess I would also need one for a mixture as well the trouble is that there are days when I guess the mp3 player makes me more anti social ...." yes you watch that awful looking programme on the telly I am going to chill with some mosaics and some cider in the garden ( ok it is freezing cold- but I will be fine) whats wrong with that? as for the ipod/creative thing- the creative that I have is sublime, honey for my ears, aural massage - I hope I spelt that last one right. I fear that the ipods through up problems that others do not. I also have a 1gb flash stick for cycling to work ...that too is faultless
-
It really works for me too, I just love this set up and there are sooooooo many little gems like this in the Riverside and Prestige vault that have been dug up and even more left in there still to come out. Then there are all the one offs by strangers who hooked up with BN regulars for their first solo date and were never seen again. I have a fair size OJC collection and got loads through emusic ( including this one if I remember) and really enjoy em Andy
-
I have 2 of these on Japanese cd ( the 1 and 2 feet sessions) and was really impressed with them. Would not mind listening to the 3rd session though as I also have Bash by him as well and really enjoyed them. The sound was awesome too . Go get em Andy

Again a sad loss for someone who helped release some very beautiful music on the world. I have built up a large collection of Prestige titles over the years and it varies so much from classic hard bop to really cooking soul jazz and then you get the Mal Waldron sides and Jaki Byard and Eric Dolphy one word for Prestige Records WOW! Rest in peace

Yeh ....not my fav Young stuf I would say nor is the Spaceball/Fuel stuff I have Lawrence of Newark and that is nearly the same...it is still in near mint condition...ie not played often!

Eddie Gales Black Rhythm happening That does it for me...title track Everytime -
I have the organic grooves thing and it is really good. One of the rare modern recordings by these guys ( save the pattons and some of reuben wilsons ) that I enjoy. I bought another one...booogaloo to bop I think ..cannot remember the full title at the moment. I have too damn hot though and that really cooks I thought. My favourite Lonnie Smith is either Think or Club Mozambique which is pretty damn good in my opinion. I also liked his stuff with George Benson (from the 60's) I also tried the beck thing...did not know who beck was but it was...ok nothing more nothing less

I have this album and I really enjoyed its freshness. I never bothered with the rarums really as I have many of the original cds etc so think it will not be of much use to me however I guess they are a safe investment for someone trying to find out more. However this is where I find the whole cdr /mp3 thing comes into play as this is entirely the value of turning someone on to the new enrico rava or manu katche or who ever as then more people will go out and get the original cd....if you have problems with that - well fine...or do a compilation for your buddies....thats what makes me pick up more jazz and long may it last!
