  4. aha...found the blighter! It was something I read on a Houston Person compilation called Personality (on bgp) The writer (John Crosby)in reference to the live set said ' the bulk of the material came from two vibrant nights of 'live' recordings made at Detroit's Watts'Club Mozambique (an event evidently filmed, probably for a local TV special" Now that was what I was on about....I would LOVE to hear or see that for one as it is a killer session in my opinion...but on TV WOW! Grant Green Jack Mcduff and Houston Anyone know any more? Surely somebody out there must a heard of it...if they new for the cd???? Somebody>>??
  5. may have been on the cd compilation thingie...at work now will check when I get home. You are right it ain't on the record but I do remember reading it...at least I think I do...oh eck...nurse Here is the record anyway
  6. as with the mozambique session I had said this before I am sure but the notes on Person release from there refer to tv recordings being of them all playing together ....anybody know any more on this I would love either of these to come out and good to know they are thinking of it what ever the sound recording quality I would snap em up in a ....erm ...snap!
  7. Interesting and look user friendly. Depends how easy it is to input.....oh god file input.....just gone off the idea. See computers will be smart when they know what cds I have with out me listing them and have some nifty way of sorting them. and working out how to hide all the details from 'you know who' in case she works out how much they you know what' $. Cause when that happens I will be in the 'you know where '
  8. and round the front for those who ain't seen this one either
  9. And the Grasella Olliphant stuff which on my cd lists it as 1967 but no date as far as I can see
  10. heres the front for those who ain't seen it Andy
  11. Here is the original back cover ( from the Japanese cd)
  12. thats what my sources point to....I always thought they were different at the time but there is confusion Still is a kick ass session! Andy
  13. I will have a look at this tonight at the records and also at my various other sources at home Andy
  14. Never seen the cover before ...cheers That was another session in addition to the ones I was referring to
  15. They were radio broadcasts from that era from a tour that they did 69 and 70 I guess Lovely stuff The oft quoted dime a dozen site has them There are around 4 different session recordings as far as I know in july ....maybe
  16. I must echo the fact that with the very very odd exception I never had any hassle with any of my cds. I did notice more hiss on my US RVG of Idle Moments and Midnight Blue which I thought I would buy as I played the earlier versions to death. It was a test and they were ok...nothing more nothing less I was not so impressed that I will replace any more of my older cds which to my ears sound brilliant and I have been lucky enough to own original Blue Note LPs but lacked the serious wonga to get the most out of them and could not wait to replace them with cds ( whilst making huge profits of course ) or at the time with Japanese new vinyl I have never understood the absolutist attitude on this or the people who lay into the music producers/remaster people. I share the fear that we may all end up losing as all music production gets controlled by the big boys but we ain't there yet and I am sure that was a fear in the late 60s when Blue Note got took over........yet my HUGE and bulging Blue Note collection is fighting a winning battle at the moment.
  17. Me too and I think it would give someone a lovely introduction to Blue Note records ...what a diverse collection. I always think he played well with Lee Morgan and as for favourite...hard pressed I would say the most played in my house is the Grachan Moncur Evolution out of those and the opener on Open House with Jimmy Smith
  18. I am afraid that I ended up just connecting my MP3 player (Creative Juke Box) to the Hi - Fi through the headphone socket and tend to stick it on shuffle. What better selection than Radio Bleaden .........a mixture then of Blue Note /ECM/Classical stuff then fill s the room OK ....I do need a telescope to read what tracks are playing .....from my chair but I know most of them I must admit though a connection to the pc would mean even more Radio Bleaden but then that is up stairs and my telescope will not work then. I could always get the children to stand next to the player and shout out the tunes...DJ training in the making. The trouble is the pc has alot of stuff that would not be so hot on the stereo so maybe I will stick with the MP3 connection for now
  19. I have just heard some of the live stuff from the late 60s with Harold and Hutch....and it adds to the beautiful music they did on Blue Note together. Awesome sets from Germany in the summer of 69 which makes me remember the feeling I first had when I picked up Medina, Spiral etc .....that sort of era was really what I liked with these two.... I also have Inner Glow now which was well worth the wait and will enhance any Select from Mosaic should they release it Am I right in thinking we are missing some Argo/cadet dates with these two as well ? Andy
  20. The Sermon always does it for me as did House Party and most of all Open House/Plain Talk...which I have always thought was the business. As for the links between him and Coltrane, they have both acknowledged each other in the past and see no reason not to believe either of them Andy
  21. Yeh I bought and instantly regretted it until I actually read it. It looked like a pile of do do but it was really interesting mix of articles , mostly about the types of jazz I do not listen to which was informative. A worthwhile collection of different pieces Andy
  22. Gosh Another one gone of my favourites. Words are not enough but I do have a nice Mosaic to compensate with later today when I get home. I always think of his work as moving on what Hard Bop did in an accessible way. Goodbye Jackie
  23. I agree and I wish we could offer to help out from over here across the pond. I would LOVE to be involved in any small way in anything like this. I loved what came out on the Sixth Sense and leave the decisions to those most involved. Like I mentioned before my experience is limitied to editing the announcers voice of the top 40 radio countdown when I was a kid ...and I alway fluffed that...perhaps I could stick the cds in the trays!...mind you ...I get that wrong at home...spent hours the other day looking for a cdr I had of John Patton Soul Connection and found it hidden under Jimmy Smith......the language was rather blue to say the least. I would welcome the chance to hear fresh material and do think the best way is to do unreleased stuff via an download thing..then the risk is lessened......however I am also reminded of an oft quoted response on this board that we need to spend more time with the classics we have and get to know them better Hmmmm Not so sure now
  24. Well if someone wants to stick a load of unrelated and unreleased Blue Note recordings on a cd and want financial backing then , with due consideration following the recent cash for peerage row in the UK and me not getting the expected peerage; I am willing to send my contribution ($15) to Blue Note to 'help them out' Just mail me the address and the cheque is on its way. Do I still get a title? Lord Bleaden of Blue Note has a certain charm
  25. Was n't jealous before now I am really jealous I nominate myself to do the editing for the Grant Green set at Club Mozambique and I am writing a nice letter off to Mr Tony Blair with a suitable size cheque. I will of course let all of you sneer when I take fame and glory in the music press for my legendary fluffed endings on songs and typos on the cover!
