Can we get back to Faulkner now?

Pretty accurate assessment. Personally, as a fan of a big division foe, I am not very concerned about the Jets. I'm not convinced that they are better than they were last year. I think they might even be weaker. The Bills are on their way up. I'd even say they'd be the second place finisher, except there are too many questions at quaterback for the Bills. Jets will finish second. We swept both games from them last year. I don't believe Curtis Martin will have as good a year as last. Pennington's arm is uncertain. LJ was about to bust out, and they got rid of him. Jet's D-line is still first class. Pretty good defence, but not great. Pats have other stronger teams to be concerned about.

Just wrote a review. It was indicated that it will take a day (or a year) or something before we can read it. :bwallace2: -

And drinks! ← Oh geez, I can see it now, Joe is gonna buy the whole bar a round "on me". "No really, Greg, 200 people from the board showed up, it was amazing..." Damn, I am screwed. Oh by the way, is this gonna be a CD release party?????? ← Hey Greg, Two more drinks. I'm coming up from Toledo with a buddy... -

Yes it will. I'll see about bringing a digital camera. I've got one of those single-use things you buy in stores. Of course, I wouldn't know how to load the pics on the computer, but perhaps I can get some help from the younger generation... -

Maybe. But everything is relative. The touchstone comes from the other tracks on the cd. I don't think they are as good as the tracks on the second half. But relatively speaking, it's all good music. Of course I like "Stomp Yo' Feets," and "Smoking Section." Jim, your work on "Tenderly" is something else. I love that organ entry on your solo. It's like a cat moving at night. Beautiful. And the way the B-3 weaves around Joe's playing. Wow! Joe shows lots of funk in many of the tracks. His sensitive playing is clear to everyone, but he can get down and dirty too! (You little rascal! ) I think you guys will get lot of airtime for some of these tracks. Like everyone else, I've got to compliment Randy's harmonica work. Wow! I sensed Joe's spirit all over "Pumpkin Pie." You know who it sounds like? Steely Dan! It sounds like a top-notch Steely Dan tune. Does anyone else get that impression? -

I've heard the cd about four times now. Definitely superior to the first. Will provide more detailed comments later. I've got to head to work. The first three tunes don't appeal to me as much as the others do. From track 4 on, this is as good as it gets. I noticed it was recorded over two dates. Interesting because I feel the second half from Joe's "Intro" to "Pumpkin Pie" takes the cd to much greater heights. Of course, I'm partial to "Tenderly," as I heard the band play this song live at least four times. Love that work on the snare, Randy, on that tune. Your solo on "Tenderly" is out of this world, Jim. Great job Joe! My god! Great tune! You guys pulled the Zappa track off great. Good rapport between Joe and Randy on several of the bottom tracks. Great stuff! I can't wait to see you guys in Detroit next weekend... -

Got my two copies in the mail this evening. Listening to it now. Nice. Jim, please post the cdbaby link once they've got your new cd, so we can write reviews. Noj, great artwork! It would have been even better if the band hadn't signed all over it! Will comment on the music after multiple listenings. First thoughts: I really like "Smoking Section." That's as far as I've heard into the cd at the moment. Six more tracks to go! -
Happy Birthday, Lon. And thanks for your advice in that audio thread...

Sound and the Fury is some heavy going. That's a Faulkner they ought not assign to 19-year-olds. --eric ← It's a tough read for young people, but I assigned it to my Thai students in "Modern American Novel" at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Those students didn't grow up with English, and I read the novel out loud in class word-by-word. This was a long time ago, and I cannot remember how much of the writing they understood. I sure dug it!

Since this is turning (happily) to a Faulkner thread, I'm adding a new signature...

Just because he sounds like Benjy don't mean he's Faulkner... ← Btw, folks. I like reading Faulkner. I see few similarities between the two.

I say he's got to offer his stuff in the "pay-it-forward" thread first.

Hey look, Speaking in general terms (not necessarily focusing on Clem), if you read a lot of books but still write like an illiterate then you can still be charged as such. Going back to Clem: yes, he does seem to read a lot. Good for him. I don't wish to be encouraged into saying negative stuff about the guy. I hope he does return back to post. He's got his share to contribute as well. I even agree with him on some things; I admit I don't care for his writing "style," if you want to call it that; but I think the fact that such a number of posters here bemoan his absence certainly points to his value. That says more than anything I have to say.
