Whose in charge of the tunes?
-
Oops! I started a check in thread. Looks like we're kinda doing that here.

Hey, I'm here!! Where's everybody?
-
The same is true for most artists unfortunately. I bet novelists and poets starve.

Catesta is in charge of the distaff guests! (Not the distaff boardmembers)

Bill Gates wants people to pay for e-mail
connoisseur series500 replied to Chrome's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I doubt it. Have you checked your mailbox lately for junk sent through the postal system? I am opposed to charging for emails. A small charge becomes a bigger charge later on; then we'd have to have it taxed. By the time, we're done with it, the charge would be hefty. -
When will you decide? Phuket is a spectacular beach area. It can be pricey and there are budget places as well. It's nestled in the Andaman Sea. If you do go that far, you must go to Phang Nga, which has some nice tours. Interesting limestone cliffs and rocks. Ranong is not too far away. Never been there, but an old friend says its his favorite place in all of Thailand! Avoid Haad Yai: it's one of those crappy sin cities. All the want is your money and they probably wouldn't care for budget travellers. I visited a friend once in Phattalung deep in the South. Interesting and quiet place. Lots of forests. Tigers are said to still roam, but I don't think there are many left. Southern Thai people are Moslem as opposed to the rest of the country, where they are Buddhism. Nothing ulterior meant in that particular statement. I merely point it out. I'll let you know about Bangkok once you decide to go. Remind me, please....

Who/what got you hooked on jazz?
connoisseur series500 replied to neveronfriday's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I don't know, Deuse. I read books all the time, play/study chess, listen to music, and my kid only wants to play computer games and watch TV. None o' this is rubbing off... My parents never listened to music nor were they big book readers, though they were pretty well educated. -
A perfectly natural question to ask.

Makes you wonder if he resents having to play in clubs for a living. Or maybe he doesn't need to?

Kuching...isn't that in Sarawak? I planned a trip there once but never did it. Never been to Indonesia, but I went to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia for about a week. My intent was NOT to go off the beaten track. I like beaten tracks, thanks! I've lived in the Third World so long that I actually prefer civilization. Kuala Lumpur was interesting to me, but perhaps not to you. It is fairly well-developed. People speak pretty good English there. There are some caves to see if you are interested in getting out of the city. Best go out into the jungle, I guess...

I'd pick up "Africaine" and "Nature Boy." I traded away my "Nature Boy," and wouldn't mind rebuying it.

TRUE STORY: I got mine on ebay and had to fend off another bidder. The seller had offered a buy-it-now price along with a lower starting bid. This other guy and I kept bidding it up and we went above the buy-it-now price. I emailed the guy to tell him to lay up (it's called buyer's collusion ), otherwise, I'd have some "friends" visit him in the night...no, just kidding! A guy by the name of Berigan would be visiting him who is (quote) "all muscle!" Actually, I told him that I wasn't going to go any higher and that we should decide then and there who should get the set. He told me to go for it and that he had already gone past his price. I think I paid $90+ but it was under $100.

How Long do they last? Cd's and Cd-r's
connoisseur series500 replied to Jazztropic's topic in Audio Talk
Tell you what, though. Our collections will obviously not last forever. This is the big lesson I am getting out of reading this thread. And here I've gone after a lot of older oop stuff with the age clock already ticking on them. I better start listening to my collection! -
Don't listen to Couw ( ) You can easily get this for $100. I bought mine on ebay for said amount. Amazon probably has some used copies for sale as well. Just check out ebay. Someone is always selling them. Couw is correct in saying that it is a great set. Because it is a box set, I don't give it nearly the playing time that it deserves. I'm just that way with box sets.

I cannot remember whether she opened the cd case to see what was inside. It was probably Dodo Green.
