  1. Wow. I'm sure this has gotten coverage here, but I've not seen it, at least not that I can remember. I no longer indulge, and am wary of treating it too casually, but from both a legal and revenue standpoint, it seems enlightened. To say nothing of the comedy that will no doubt ensue about the entire northern border of the continental US being lit. The comedic mind reels!
  2. Weed legal in Canada? The whole country?
  3. Reviving this somewhat unwoke thread to say that I caught a 1957 episode of To Tell The Truth last night w/Betsy Palmer on the panel, and omg...she was just...supremely beautiful. I mean, yes, everybody is beautiful in their own way, and that was Betsy Palmer's way. What was that line that Johnny Hartman sang...You are too beautiful, my dear, to be true, And I am a fool for beauty. So like The Jordanaires sang - now and then there's a fool such as I.
  4. I'm cautiously optimistic that we've seen the last of Summer here. About time!
  5. AH! I knew there was onee, I kept thinking Freddy McCoy, but his tune had nothing to do with a tv shw, jsut the comic book character. Indeed! And covered by Oliver Nelson!
  6. wow, never seen that one before. 1982, was that part of the attempted reboot of CTI? Is this your label? That's freaky how there's two different ink colors... Oh, there's also this variant:
  7. What are your thoughts on that one? I've never had it gel the way I'd like to, but keep wondering if I have unrealistic expectations.
  8. Oh my...from the frying pan into the fire...
  9. Yeah, society has evolved out of that whole sexual predator thing since then, right?
  10. wow. that's just all kinds of...all kinds of. Getting past that, though, I guess considering the album title in conjunction with the image in question is not objective? o....k....
  11. Well, the title of the record is SUPRISE! x2. Never known an illicit watch-vendor to use that word when hawking their wares. Flashers, otoh, that's more than a cliché. This may all be hypothetical to you, but I had a good friend who as it turned out was a flasher, got convicted, did 90 days in jail might well still be on probation for all I know. He's not a friend anymore because although he owned up to it to explain why he was going to be unavailable for a while, he never really admitted that he had a problem past getting "overheated from time to time". I had a teenage daughter at the time, and the first thing I did was to let her know was that this guy was like this, and then ask her had ever ever even hinted at anything with her. She said she hadn't, but then she told me about guys her own age who were up to shit like that, just pulling out their junk and looking for a reaction. So yeah, the whole "flasher as joke" thing is not funny to me. And if the album title had been, Hey, Wanna Buy A Band? or something like that, your logic would make sense to me. But it's not, and it doesn't.
  12. I don't think it was your intent to offend. I myself am not offended, because in my experience unwoke men think that that kind of thing is funny in some form or fashion, so it's expected. I think it's disgusting, but I am not offended. Disgust is just a part of life, as is being offended. But those are two different things, really, disgust and offence. I'm disgusted when I step in dog shit, but I'm not offended by the dog or it's shit. I'm not even always disgusted with myself for stepping in it, because hell, you can't see everything all the time, right? Dogs gotta shit, I gotta walk, hey. Ain't no robots in that equation, right? Now, if a woke man (or woman, or just a woke human, period) lets you know directly that it offends and/or disgusts, then by all means, proceed accordingly (whatever that means to you). That'll be between you and them, not me.
  13. Well, this is today, and there it is for all to see.
  14. No, it never occurred to be that it would be construed as political, at least not "political" in the sense that it and/or I was using it as propaganda to advance a specific view, because I don't know that it was (I actually still read Time, and although, yeah, they're institutionalized with a tangibld "lean", it's not like you don't get a variety of viewpoints offered to you, you do. There is an overall viewpoint, yes, but it's is not a monovisioned one, not at all, there is a spectrum, and not all if it leftward. Whether or not one chooses to read them to know they're there, that's between the reader and their brain), and I know that I sure as hell wasn't. Immigration and the response to it....it's a complicated situation and as in all complicated situations, once emotion wears off and logic takes hold, nuances begin to become apparent. That was why I posted it, because, yes, it made me think, not about "politics", but about all the nuances and complexities that We The Species are facing these days. And how much are we creating vs how much are we responding to? Are we creating the future we're responding to now, or are we grasping a reality that has only begun to unfold? Or is it a mix of that? Or none of that? Is this whole thing a failure of imagination or a failure of a lack of imagination? I don't think it's political to consider existential questions about current events (if only because all events are current, historical events were once current events, future events will be current events, the same shit keeps happening to the species just in different iterations, because non-climatological current events are laways HUMAN events, I think it's political to NOT consider questions but to instead pimp for one "easy" answer. Perhaps I gave the audience more credit to extrapolate out than was realistic? Or perhaps I have no grasp on what "reality" has become? No matter - I accept that the general response to the image has been political in nature. But I can gurandamntee you and anybody else who asks that I was not seeing it that way when I posted it. And I myself still don't. Because of that, I myself will not delete it, but any of the other mods still has - and will always have - the prerogative to delete it. No hard feelings here.
  15. would Roger Kellaway's recording of "Remembering You" count?
  16. I like jazz that floats, but I'm not sure that Floating Jazz would be the same thing?
  17. Yeah, discovering Disc Union, DIW, and that yes you COULD get them some place else, that was, in terms of initial rush, epic indeed.
  18. I love Frank Wess (on tenor and flute, both!), but if I pick this one up, it's not going to be with a cover of a sexual predator. That's beyond bad taste, in some ways worse than those Venus covers, because presumably those are consenting adults, not G-Rated Larry Flynt-esque winks.
  19. And thank you for knowing me. Not because you let me "break the rules", but because you sensed - correctly - that my posting of that cover was not political in intent, that it was to point out that this is a powerful image of a current situation, draw your own conclusions, but damn, that's a good construction, artfully done. and yes, unless you look at source first and nothing later, you could see it with more than one interpretation. I know I sure did. But then I'm the type of person who likes to roll things around in my mind. There are facts and there are conclusions, and if you reach one without considering all of the other, you're pretty much somebody's useful idiot and your "principles" ultimately don't mean shit. So yeah, you knew me. And still do. But all these accusations of conspiracy, favoritism, and such, one word. Bullshit. Although - if you accidentally delete one more thread, I am SO going to flag you as a spammer forever.
  20. Did they all have such, uh..., questionable covers? That's not a trait that I associate with that label, at least not that I've experienced.
  21. Here are the contents of the logs - that I can access - for user reported contents through April of 2017. I do not see your complaint. Which doesn't mean you didn't register one, it just means that I can't find it. To that end, please note that, like many other features of this board, navigating this shit is not without some, uh, "difficulty". so I can't vouch for this being a "definitive record". But this is what I have visible to me, right now. Randy Weston - Thoughts and tributes Post in Artists 1 comment 1 report Larry Kart 1 October So, What Are You Listening To NOW? Post in Mosaic and other box sets... 1 comment 1 report Larry Kart 13 Jul 2017 Content deleted Post 1 comment 1 report JSngry 4 Apr 2017 Content deleted Post 1 comment 1 report JSngry 4 Apr 2017 Also worth noting that the vast majority of reports these days are for, like, duplicate threads, double postings, etc. I will also advise that, due solely to time/life constraints, all complaints are reviewed, but only specific items are dealt with (if they are dealt with...we had one guy who would whine on about all sorts of shit, not just occasionally, but FREQUENTLY, and you know, you try to accommodate everybody, but after a while, you realize that there's always going to be somebody who's just a pain in the ass for no good reason), anyway, what was I saying...oh yeah, be specific. There is a process involved in removing content, and there's no bulk tool. It's all manual, and on a per-item basis only. So if you just talk about "a lot of posts" or words like that, hey. Some days are better than others, but no day has time enough to play Judge Judy on every possible contender to be offender. Hell, Judge Judy got a script and a director. We don't.
  22. Who did that cover anyway? What label put it out (no pun intended)?
  23. I got the sense that the recent "purge" (a potentially political term, watch yourself!) was only of fairly recent vintages. As I can vouch to, you can only go back so far on these things, these digs. It takes time. The time cover was posted more than 90 days ago and did not receive, as far as I can tell, not one complaint when it went up. Not one. So, did Larry see mine and let it pass? I don't know. If he did, I'll say it again - feel free to delete it. But it's equally possible that nobody complained, so he let it ride, because, as he says, he knows me to not be somebody who defaults to cheap defiance in matters such as this. But how much of this "outrage" is coming from people who were upset then but were too cowardly to call it out then, in real time. How much of this "outrage" comes from some members who have weird feelings about things "American" and/or "censorship" to the point where overtly political cartoons of unambiguous political messaging (it's their very reason for being) are routinely posted in open defiance of repeated admonitions and then when action is taking, up come the objections...what are people stockpiling grudges rather than speaking up in real time? Whatever, seems we have some cowardly sort lying about here, which is ok, I mean they're everywhere, all the time, but just sayin'...adult behavior - desired adult behavior anyway - is not based upon simmering grudges and group courage.
  24. Not at all. Both can have some pretty striking, expressive visages that speak to broader realities, human existential realities than the mundanely immediate "political". That's where a good photographer or constructor should be recognized - for finding a universal reality/truth in a specific event. It happens every day...or at least several times a week. Now, if your position is that the general membership of this forum has neither the inclination or perspicacity to grasp this, I'll not argue against you. But you know me, I'm a dreamer.
