  1. I don't want to win anybody over or ease anybody into anything. People either get it or they don't. All I hope for is a fair visibility for all of what is being done, after which, hey, see you there if you're there, see you someplace else if you're not. I go to a lot of places, so the odds are good that there will be an opportunity for intersection somewhere. But if not, oh well, life is short, and I'm frequently flatulent. Count your blessings!
  2. I would so buy it.

  4. The subject line Debate 9/27 was a mirror of a just-locked thread Debate 9/26 which was overtly/totally political in intent. The timing and placement of your new thread in a non-music subforum suggested the possibility that it was an "answer" thread, especially since the content did nothing to indicate that it was to be a specifically musical discussion (the content was not "do you prefer...." but was just Experimental Hip Hop, or Gansta Rap? Knowing this community to be a bunch of intelligent wiseasses, the potential for equating candidates to genres was real enough. And it would probably have been funny. But it would also have been political, which the owner of the board has explicitly forbidden. Since I don't have all day to sit around and wait to see what the intent was or what the results would be, I locked the thread, as I had done with the overtly political one. Premature? Perhaps. But please feel free to start such a discussion in a music subforum. Even use that same subject line if you like, if you think that will attract the discussion you desire. I'm locking this thread now. the OP's question has been asked and answered. Further pursuance of an actual musical discussion is encouraged, as always.

  8. not produced by Clifford, iirc. I do enjoy this record, as well as it's follow-up on SE (which has Frank Strozier), and one more Keno Duke record on, what, Trident? They're all of a piece, although this one was recorded live, was it not? The other two weren't. Keno Duke...one of those guys who never really broke through to "wider public recognition", but also one of those guys who it seemed like if he had a date, he came prepared. Whatever happened to Keno Duke?
  9. Yes, you do...the "sign up" for this one is a bit of a formality since Thom makes either format readily available. Still, it's nice to get a gauge of who all will be listening!
  10. Looks like they might be pivoting away from the fintech angle for Season 3, which would disappoint me, but, really who knows? Then again, we're left hanging with "Phase Two" still going forward, so...it's a ride, that's for sure. So far, they've made it worth my while. Everything pays off, even if as soon as it does, it pivots into something else. Whew!
  11. Have confirmed with Tom that the test will go live on his site the night of September 30, so discussion can begin here on Oct 1.

Seriously doubt that Curtus, or anybody , "wrote" "Amen". Curtis might - might - have written an expanded lyric, but the basic refrain, hell, I was a white Lutheran kid, and that "Amen" thing was kicking around long before then. We had It in Vacation Bible School. And If WE had It...
  13. Left out of there Friday night looking for the right words, still looking. Suffice it to say, a pretty schizo program, with each half delivered without timidity or inappropriateness. We ahd heard Rite a few years ago as done by the Plano SO, and that was a treat, nicely played, but this was a top-shelf orchestra & conductor who was really inside the music. It's a piece I've come to know the innards of reasonably well via records (multi-plural!) but getting it right (no pun intended) in your face like this was really visceral, bloody, even. The dissonances still cut, the loudness still scares, when they happen at one...shivers, for real. And the quiet parts....you can't relax during the quiet parts... I hope to live long enough to give Brahms the full due I think I need to give him. This guy...going along so normal fo soooo long, sleep is coming, and then, something happens, some weird chord, some neat turn of phrase, something...kind of stealth if you ask me, and I like stealth. Anyway, a wonderfully energizing and invigorating evening of live music, and again, a privilege to have available about a half-hour drive's away at exceptionally reasonable prices.
  14. In no way trying to resuscitate any of the old discussion threads, but there's been some random musings about wouldn't it be nice if we had the old tests available again somewhere. So this is my contribution to that train of thought. The ever magnanimous Thom Keith has graciously archived (for streaming only) my three previous Organissimo BFTs. #s 004 & 027, two discs each, and #105, a single disc) http://thomkeith.net/index.php?cID=136 Note - These now-archived tests are found inside the Archived Organissmo BFTs folder in the player menu. If you open what is listed as Blindfold Test 04 from the base/root menu you will not get my BFT (actually listed as BFT004) of the same number. So heads up on that. Discussion and reveal threads of all O-Board BFTs are still live here on the board. I know Hot Ptah's index thread got its links jacked during a software makeover, but the threads themselves are still here inside this Sub-Forum. So if you want to get track listings, it's all here. BFT004 (December 2003) Reveal: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/6177-blindfold-test-4-answers/ Two discs, one thread BFT027 (July 2005) Reveals: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/20906-bft-27-disc-one-answers/ & http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/20928-bft-27-disc-two-answers/ Two discs, two threads BFT 105 (December 2012) Reveal http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/72355-bft-105-the-answer-thread/
  15. Greetings all. I will be unavailable the first few days of October, but rest assured that BFT 151 is already in the hands (and presumable on the servers) of Thom Keith, who is so graciously hosting and archiving so many of the BFTs these days. http://thomkeith.net/index.php?cID=136 I've asked Thom to make the download/streaming available on or about October 1, so once that is done, discussion can take place in tis thread. The test is 12 selections, and is a few seconds shy of 55 minutes. The cuts all hold individual interest (to me, anyway), but I tried to sequence and pace them in such a way that a listener might hope to have a satisfactory "album" experience as well, just listen straight through and have fun so doing. I know time is tight for everybody, but if you do have the free time to give the thing an uninterrupted "recreational" listen with no "analytics" in place, please do. I think it's a engaging listen like that, perhaps even more than breaking it down and dissecting each track. But of course, BFT, so, hey... Also, fullest and warmest thanks to Andrew Griffith & Rod Stasick for helping me with their technology when mine was basically inoperable, aka "fucked up". These guys are true friends. Looking forward to reading any and all thoughts that these musics generate, individually and collectively. Onward!
  16. Is them the Royal Crown Colas there in the door?
  17. Yes, this is real, er..."real"... http://barbraandfrank.com Not a remix trip of contextual contemplations, a straight-up excuse to Stay Stoopid. Coming soon to Plano. Of course

Well, some people dig being sat on by an elephant and it's ass. They'd probably encourage others to feed the elephant so it didn't have to get up. I'm not one of those people, but hey, no judgment here.
