Yes, Motivation is some major music, a reissue would be an event, I should think. Talk about rescued form oblivion!

I've got a DL of that Watts Savoy and would gladly buy a legit CD reissue. That (and a few others of the time) was part of a production deal that Dixon had with Savoy, correct? No telling what getting all the rights to all of them would entail, but a collection of Bill Dixon-produced Savoy sides would not be particularly cumbersome in terms of size alone, and would be a fantastic preservational entity.

I've got both and find them of roughly equal high quality. The real enjoyment for me on them is from Jimmy Heath, who is fired up in a way that his records of the time didn't really go to, but which we know he had. Another gear, as it is said.

Those who left us this year in the world of jazz in 2015

Are we ever going to run out of people to leave us? -
Usually for me, the vocalese by necessity removes the more subtle embellishments of the soloists, and in contrast/compare, that often ends up bugging me. But the lyrical narrative on this one for some reason continues to delight me, especially now that I've learned that business about, "I wrote mine, now you write yours" and Hendricks coming up with "I heard what you said and I know that you're trying to tighten my head". The whole adult warning/child response thing...timeless, really. Take away the "hip" thing and you still got something worthwhile, with lots of memorable expressions.."find out where to fall when the sun goes down just in case your troubles get you down". Fish and fowl, the fowl noticeably smoothed out, but none the worse for the wear...more aerodynamic, actually. otoh...Getz ftw on this one. Those lyrics hint at, and occasionally hit on, something deeper but ultimately end up being just another "love sucks" song. Missed it by THAT much. Anybody know the "meaning" of the title "Diaper Pin"? Always wondered about that...my first reaction to the title is opium, the few times I smoked opium, it was by inhaling fumes off a smoldering piece that was stuck on a diaper pin, this was supposedly the "hip" way to do it, but who knows the real significance?

I was wondering the other day - what would/will happen if/when freestylers start getting into melody and harmony and incorporating that? Or is that one of those things that just ain't ever gonna happen?

That's nowhere near as curious as the scattered reports of him being in/around Cincinnati in the latter 1960s...of all the places to be, why that one (unless the usual family/etc.), King Records?

Played the BN issue of this one (which also includes singles from Aladdin & Jubilee) a few times today and completely agree, on all counts. And yet, I can let it go with little to no resistance. Golden Days has some kind of weird undercurrent of disturbance which keeps pulling me back in. I'm not ready to file it away yet. Go figure.
