  1. Credit due for the Boris Rose quality of the titles and covers of some of these things, certainly they are paying homage to the great bootlegger, and some of them are pretty damn funny, hopefully intentionally. I know it's legal in Germany. And I get that making an honest living as a jazz label is tough, and that maybe it's inancially tempting to be both honest AND legal. But let's note that Boris Rose released airshots and other things of that nature, not PD studio material of days gone by that fell into his lap through no effort of his own.
  2. We have a situation here today where if Rangers lose and Astros win, there would be a game 163 to determine who was the AL West champion. Both teams would finish 87-75. The loser of that game would then be the 2nd AL Wild Card team. Yankees and Rangers guaranteed a spot no matter what, and their opponent will only be the Angels if they beat the Rangers again today AND the Astros lose. Then there's a Game 163 between Astros & Angels, and the loser of that one does go home. But a Game 163 between Astros & Rangers, hey, both go on playing no matter the outcome. Am I missing something?

  4. Why do you say that? Jim? Why do you say that? Jim? Thanks for asking! I'll tell you why- because any system that allows for a team to lose Game 163 and still have a shot at winning the World Series is bullshit, that's why. I mean, ok, I get that Main Street is dead and that Wall Street rules rule, but still...at least a veneer of clothing over those money-engorged genitalia, please, MLB - there's children watching! Or is that the point?
  5. Truth be told, I'm just about ready to say Fuck The Rangers and let's go Astros. I can go there, legit too. For this year, anyway. And really, you kids get of my Astroturf - this second wild card shit is just vulgar. Go Astros.
  6. I hunted down Film Noir on vinyl a couple of years ago on eBay, got it for a kind price. Not my "favorite" Blake, but nevertheless, a fine, fine record. As Allen implies, Blake is not for the impatient, nor is he necessarily even for all of the patient. But I will say this about him - I've got a fair number of records by him, and never, never, has one of them not proven to be "right" in the end. The guy can make you ponder for a good long while sometimes, but I've not once eventually failed to be convinced. And sometimes, often, really, it's just obvious that he's right. I'll be getting this reissue in due time, since I'm sure it be be a better, cleaner, listening than my vinyl. But still very very looking forward to the Joe Daley material.
  7. Wow, this is kinda creepy...apparently the label does not list these items in their catalog, even downloads. They only mention them in the "Hot News section of their website: http://www.nagelheyer.de/hot-news.html Here's maybe the whole lot: https://artistxite.com/label/nagel-heyer-records Some real classics here, such as: Jeez... Looking around the web, some of these appear to have the name "jazz2jazz" on the cover instead of nalgehyder, but look at this: http://jazz2jazz.com/ Wow.
  8. Not the best choice of word....I meant "legit" in the sense of releasing original projects (and frequently strong ones). Haven't known them as a reissue label, PD or otherwise.

  11. This Jorgie's was in Saint Louis. as was the Jorgie's where Wes recorded. My VGM LP talks about a vol. 2 of the Byrd/Adams material...did this ever materialize?

  21. Just to clarify, this CD is the same as the VGM LP, with the addition of a trio track by Herbie, correct? Is that trio cut "Like Someone In Love", and is it prefaced by some guy saying that they call Herbie "Oatmeal" because he's "done in three minutes"? If it is, then that one's on the VGM Miles in St. Louis LP. Just wanting to make sure I'm not missing anything. I love the whole Royal Flush thing. That's a special record and that was a special band while it lasted.

  23. Oh, but "Down Here On The Ground" was written as a vocal tune, lyrics by Gail Garnett of all people! Here's the remix. People who don't like that kind of thing won't like this either, but I really like how she sings it in this context. You put so many singers in a remix context, and they sound scared and/or confused. She sounds to me like she's in it to win it. Yeah, I know, producer's product, but she gave 'em some stuff to work with. Not everybody does. Overall, I'm not really a "fan", but I definitely get her more than I used to.
