  1. Well, I suppose we could get all Tristano-ish and discuss "ego" vs "id" in music, "emotion" vs "feeling". but after all, the question was about "excitement" not "enjoyment".
  2. Not directed at me, I trust... OMG, no!
  3. Erections are scary at first. Then you learn what they are and they're kinda cool. Then you learn what you can do with them, and they get really exciting. Then you learn what happens when you do those things and you can go batshit crazy with delirium and dread (separately or together). Then you get to where the erection is not as thrilling in itself, but what causes it is. Then you get to thinking about why some things cause them, and other, seemingly identical, things don't, and some totally opposite things also do, and then well, how much of that is me and how much of that is those things? Then you get to thinking, no, I should have an erection about anything and everything, just because, who am I to judge? And that's kinda thrilling while it lasts, but, really, how long, not very, right? So at some point, you decide that you can have an erection anytime at any place, it's ok, but by the same token, can d/n = will d/n = should, so then an erection becomes something to be simply enjoyed but not just about or for one same things always, nor acted upon the same way every time. Then you can have an erection all the time, and it's ok, because then, finally, you understand that an erection is just an erection, not a mandate. Mandates come from elsewhere. So, embrace the erection, avoid the illusion of its seeming mandate, because that's just the short game, and the long game is what lasts (is until is no longer, correct?). That's what I say about it at this time.
  4. Here's the version of "Spinning Wheel" that we should all have: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nABM14m7s7k
  5. It can also be used as a promotional tool.
  6. This is like the Buddy Rich band pared down to an organ trio. And before lounges were filled with Sinatra barfers, hey, the hip lounges could go here! I mean, yes, bad, but...totally within itself. Anybody can be bad, but to do it like this, to have so many clues that not having a clue is just the opposite of what is going on....I have the highest respect.
  7. Ok, this tune has apparently been revived from Breaking Bad, but I've not yet watched that series (ok, I know, there will be binge-watching at some point, so leave me alone about that, please), but this tune got rocked the hell out of back on DFW AM jazz radio in the 70s & 80s - and was never, ever "back-announced" or whatever it's called. So tonight, just on a whim, I decided to look on You Tube and see what was up, and it didn't take too long for this to come around, again, thanks to Breaking Bad. But who WERE these guys? It's like, cheeseus-maximus, but the hippest cheese of this variety that could possibly exist. The only thing that would make this better would be if Arthur Prysock was singing. But that didn't happen, so this will have to do, and yes, I'll take it, thank you, and where is AM jazz radio these days, anyway?
  8. Something about guarding/defending the legacy would probably be safe...that's the language that was used at the time.
  9. Here's more than you'll ever want to know! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AM_stereo My remembered timeline was a little off, but I do remember that by the time it came into any kind of "prominence" (and I use that word most advisedly), almost the only music you heard on AM was niche market, some how some way. Still is...which can be pretty fun while driving...but maybe not. I still try, though, because sometimes you get lucky.
  10. What kind of a name was Dreft, anyway. I never understood that, and oh by the way, don't sleep quite so well, it sill exists! http://www.dreft.com/ And, really? http://www.dreft.com/faqs/index.jsp Almost as funny as The Onion! The Washington Casinos? The Capital City Whores!
  11. Not saying that it's cut-and-dried either way, or that there's a unanimity of opinion, just that 90% seems awfully high under any circumstances, and...times change, ya' know? I remember a number of really offensive product names from my youth that no longer exist, and also slogans & images that have changed over time to reflect a less patronizing attitude. Given that the team is in DC, why not give them a name that's truly reflective of the nation's capital, like...the Washington Fuckups. I don't think anybody of any social or political persuasion would be offended by that these days, eh? In the meantime, the next time when in New Mexico, visit the Zuni Pueblo, maybe take the poll there. OTOH, the next time when in Oklahoma, take the poll of the Chickasaw tribe while they're counting the money from Winstar. I just want to know which group(s) and in what proportion(s) the WSJ poll was aimed towards to get that 90%, because I could get 90% the other way very easily. Needless to say, I am less than convinced by the results of anybody's opinion polls.
  12. I'd like to know who the WSJ polled to get that 90%. I mean, if I ask the right sample population, I can get 90% of it to not be offended by anything. For that matter, what "nation" did they poll in, if you know what I mean...
  13. Buy it once, shame on you. Buy it twice, shame on me!
  14. Brisbee's on a roll, this time with science! http://www.baseballnation.com/2013/10/22/4864022/cardinals-red-sox-matchup-world-series-annoying
  15. Yes, there is such a thing, and has been for a while now. I recall murmurs going back to the late 1960s(?), definitely by the late 70s.

For the record, let it be shown that the Fort Worth Cats went down, but came back up and still play today: http://www.fwcats.com/ And if you want to talk about the deep dark recesses of minor league baseball... start here and keep clicking: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longview_Cannibals

  19. It was somebody, yeah! Don't remember names at this point...but if he was on between 8 PM & 1-2 AM between 1968 and 1971 or so, I probably did. Top 40 back in the day...after dark, you could pick up stuiff from all over, and the playlists were still somewhat regional, so...it was a good time just going up and down the dial all night long.
  20. on late-nite AM radio out of New Orleans, or Mexico, or someplace, I don't remember. but yeah - that.
  21. This is funny! Why You Can NOT Has Hate The Cardinals: http://thefederalist.com/2013/10/15/stop-trying-make-cardinals-hatred-happen-going-happen/ And, then, Why Yes You CAN Has Hate The Cardinals! http://www.baseballnation.com/2013/10/21/4861024/cardinals-world-series-yankees
  22. ...errr...I was referring to having friends share their music with you instead of buying PD sets, but....ok.
  23. Walk around and look at stuff. You see more when you walk, and there's always something to look at. I started walking through the alleys behind the houses instead of the sidewalks in front of them, at first to get less noise, but I soon found out that as similar as a neighborhood might look in front, in the back is where all bets are off.
  24. Torrenting will never replace making friends!
