  1. Oh by the way - I have no idea how Mark Grace usually is as a color commentator, but today he was absolutely vomitacious. I'll usually watch a lost cause all the way through, but this guy saying stuff like having Dave Bush is a big reason the Rangers are on top of the division, well, hey, I got my self-respect, ya' know? Between that and his "Rangers don't play defense" mantra (last in league in fielding % right now, true, but for every error Elvis Andrus has made, he makes at least two hit-robbing gems, and at least that ratio for Beltre & Kinsler), i found myself praying that if Grace is ever scheduled for another Fox game featuring the Rangers again, that he gets his next DUI the night before.

  3. I bet they've brought in Ron Hunt as hitting coach.
  4. WTF is wrong with Colby Lewis? It's like he's totally, not temporally, lost it. Maybe Tommy Hunter will have a slot in the rotation after all...
  5. FWIW, the cover photo of on impulse! was shot at the MOMA concert that produced There Will Never Be Another You (the title track of which finds Sonny musically countering with "Don't be so sure!"). I have anotehr phot in a book somwhere of the same gig with Sonny semi-hunched down facing both drummers that just reeks of "on the fly". Mark's right - it's a great concert not so greatly recorded, but hey...when Sonny is really on, I don't know that you really have to hear it to feel it...
  6. Sure! How many do you need and when do you need them?

  8. No blind/bullshit umpiring this evening, just a naggy, precipitiationalistic evening. CJ Wilson not spectacular but solid, bats aplenty, two good 3 up 3 down bullpen innings, Elvis & AB flash leather, and most impressive of all was Nellie Cruz' riflearm: and his Wild Wild West-tweaking reaction: Young guys, gifted talent, just out there playing baseball and having fun with doing it well. Starting to see more of it, and gladly will look for more.
  9. What label will this be on? Sonny's never approved of the live album, so unless things have changed (and they well may have)....
  10. So they're still packaging it as "sessions" and not a "finished" version? That would be the right thing to do, but...if you do bootlegs in any form, what are you going to hear that you've not heard already, that's all I'm wondering.
  11. And there are times when the strike zone seems to float a little more than usual, like in the 9th when the ump acts like he's ready to go home...

  15. Not to underplay or distract from the bad side-effects of Klonopin or any other psychotropic drug, but geez, man Stevie Nicks is like the Chernobyl of body chemistry.
  16. I would say the same thing about the "Western World" in general...
  17. Yeah, i was kinda hoping that we could get try to him at some point along the way, should he prove to be one of those "not really happy in New York" type guys. The bullpen seemed to agree with him, and lord knows, bullpen help is a/the top priority here, and will be for some time, I'm afraid. Then again, that's how it is almost everywhere...
  18. Yep, therefore so is inspiration and innovation, and...that's ok. That's more than ok, actually. Once you accept that, you can adjust expectations and reactions accordingly. A good counselor can get you there if you need some direction. Most of us do at one point or another. Go ahead on!

  20. I used to think that I was s troubled spirit, perhaps even a little unstable, off in some kind of way, until I took a gig at a psychiatric hospital. There, I learned that, ok, I was off a little, was a little eccentric, not without socialization issues, but...I was the one coming into work everyday, pissed off, bummed out, fucked up, hungover as I was, I was still making the gig. And I began to realize that I was fucked up but functional. And that little glimmer of realization was sometimes all I had to make me keep going, to not fall totally into the tar, the realization that, yeah, y'all can get me down, ya'll can almost take me out, but even when you do , I can still make a gig, and when I get to the gig, I'm working with people who are every bit as fucked up as I think I am, but, uh,,,they ain't making the gig, they ARE the gig. So...If that's a pisspoor rout to a shimmer of self-esteem, it nevertheless is self-esteem, and , you know, work that bitch for all it'll ride. So hey, Shaun, you down, you out, you beat, so get a gig taking care of people who are much like you perceive yourself to be. See who comes out of that experience, she who end up coming to the gig revery day and who ends up being the gig. I know who'll be who. You;'ll be the one with the paycheck.
  21. Pretty much how it happened, all of it. Although Ogando was not totally sharp the first four, he only gave up the solo shot in the first, and then worked around and out of everything else until he found his zone and stayed in it until finally needing to leave with two out in the third. Dammit Darren Oliver flashes his beauty to finish the eight, his beast to put the two on in the ninth, and then in comes Neftali, who gives up a double (two runs in a third of an inning charged to Dammit, and frankly, I kinda chuckled at that and what it would do to his ERA), but then POP POW SLAM, gave over, Rangers win, Nefti grinning again. And moist importantly, even more than seeing Ogando AND it being dollar hot dog night, my daughter became a fan. She was really struck at how much there was to look at during a game, and how cool it was the way everything moved together when the ball was put into play, as well as how high a flyball really is, and how fast the ball really moves. She actually told me that she wants to go to more games because the game is NOTHING like it is on TV, that live baseball is da shizz. Makes a father proud to know they've raised their daughter right, it does. OGANDO!!!
