I bet Ben would have sounded great playing "A Remark You Made". For real.

Sports: 2009/10 NBA & NCAA Basketball Season
JSngry replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Watched most of the game while playing, and I gotta say, I can probably never again feel "love" for the Mavs again as long as Dirk, JT, & Mark Cuban are involved, but watching that Mavs team refuse to give up and actually play some hard, nastyass defense and basically rebuke the loss that was hovering in the air, well, I don't have to have love in my heart to know that that was a true sign of character from a team that has goie out of its way to demonstrate that it has none, at least on the court, for too many years now. And although they may never get the love back, they, at least for now, got the respect back. And where is this LeBron cat, who's being represented as greater than Jordan? I've hear he can really play, will he be doing so at any point during his team's current engagement? -
Didn't see the Rangers game, and pulled up to the club right at the end of the 3rd, but the recaps seem as if Harrison lost control then. He was goinf ine for the first three tha I saw/heard. But two games in a row, the recently found and much-appreciated Ranger Starter's Mojo vaporizes as if it never existed. I guess the kidney stone was not an issue. Wow. I'm talking my daughter to see Ogando pitch tomorrow night (she knows very little about baseball but is thrilled to go to The Ballpark for the first time in longer than anybody knows for sure, and she's happy to have a sports night with dad, just because it's with dad and it's "flashy", not because it's sports (and I'm more than happy that she's happy, for whatever reason). Here's hoping Ogandao stops this slide while it's still just a mini-slide slide and that the offense does right by him in the process. Put on a show and make my baby girl a fan! And jeez, Matt Harrison dude -pass that freakin' kidney stone ASAP, and definitely before your next turn.

Just talked to Greg, gig is definitely still on. -
And I got a gig tonight at a bar that will probably have the Mavs game on. But this is what i want to see, the Kidney Stone Express, a battle to see which comes first, a passed ball or a passed stone.

Matt Harrison is still scheduled to start tonight, in spite of still not yet passing his kidney stone. How is that supposed to work?

You know, i was surfing through the season premiere of that Next Food Network Star show the other night, and this Hispanic (Mexican, to be specific, I think) chick wanted to do French food. Well, this network chick, Susie Fogelson I think it was, stops her and tells her, "You've got things to tell that only you can tell, focus on that instead", or words very close to that. In other words, I don't care how good your food is (that was never commented on), we ain't putting no Hispanic chick on tv unless they're talking about their "native cuisine". I nearly, no, did, start screaming at the tv HEY SUSIE - MAYBE WHAT SHE REALLY IS IS A MEXICAN CHICK WHO DIGS FRENCH FOOD, YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT? WHO ARE YOU TO TELL OTEHR PEOPLE WHAT THEY SHOULD OR SHOULDN'T BE. WHO GAVE YOU THAT RIGHT? I think I kinda scared LTB... I mean, what if somebody told Susie Fogelson, hey, we know you want to produce general audience tv, but there's so many stories only you can tell, focus on those instead? Maybe they did, and this is the result. Now she's in a position to look for people who will cheerfully be what she wants them to be so she can stay where she is. If you want to be a Mexican chick talking about Mexican food, hey, here's a show, let me pimp you out on that, I know how to do that. If you want to be a Mexican chick talking about French food, forget about it, there's no place in her world for that, and she's got the power to make it so and keep it so. Once they become bigger than what their "place" is, it is the nature of the fearful small to use thier power to limit what others think of themselves to keep them in their place so they can stay in theirs. It is one of the ugliest traits of humanity, and it is damn near universal. It is also in the nature of the unfearful small to want to reach wherever and whatever interests them. That is one of the most beautiful traits of humanity and it too is damn near universal. In the ensuing fight, you always gotta pull for the little guy, but then you really gotta watch out for him if/when he whens. Nothing kills triumph quicker than success.

Of course not... I was just kind of bemused by Sangrey's (and some others) posts in the thread on the new Woody Allen flick... I thought you were talking about "art", not Woody Allen movies. don't hack on a non-native's choice of words, please... i meant arts, culture, music, literature, painting, religion, whatever... Not hacking on you, just at Woody Allen movies.

Lunceford, Tolliver and Rivers sound samples
JSngry replied to golfcrazy1984's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
No. Sam Rivers does not translate well into either Pashto or Persian Dari. It's too invasive. I'm told the State Department is working on it. Take my advice and keep it local. You'll get it better, and faster. Deployment is all about better and faster. -
He always struck me as a less gifted Pete Rose, and not just on the field.

Not sure if escapism is something to be "celebrated"...a little goes a long way as far as improving one's actual condition, if that is in fact from what one is trying to escape. I don't know much, but I do know that. Have you seen the film? It's more or less making that point; that escapist entertainment is a wonderful thing, but ultimately you have to accept reality. The romantic Hollywood movies of the Thirties are pastiched and satirised but very affectionately; they certainly aren't "criticised" as Dave Kehr suggests. I've seen it several times, but frankly, it's escapism about escapism and as such is something I "stream" rather than "download and "burn". Seems like the right thing to do, no?

Dude, the only world you can count on really being for you is the one you make for yourself, according to your own specifications. You create that zone, and then don't let nobody get there except on your terms. Everything else in this life is simply a matter of doing what you got to do to keep that place alive and viable. Gotta eat, gotta pay the bills, gotta stay out of jail, gotta maintain and keep going. If you don't, then the bastards win. Having to compromise a deal with the bastards is just the cost of doing business, and sometimes it's a pretty damn high price. But letting them win, letting them (or you letting them) have your inner zone of peace, sanity, and serenity, is just not an option. Not an option. Learn what those words mean, and do not forget. If I talk a lot of bullshit sometimes, I hope to never lie. So what I tell you here is the truth, even if it might sound like bullshit. Proceed accordingly, and know that keeping your soul and "being happy" do not always happen at the same time.
