  1. Empty Room is aptly named to me, makes me sad. Sonnet For Sal, otoh, is marvel-inducing. There's also East of Isar, led by Benny Bailey. That one's a real eye-opener.
  2. Them pinstripes in your veins be causing cataracts or something? Or are you behooved?
  3. I dig how the Revvend Al is rockin' the JoeHen glasses! As might this, from the same project: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHtUcr5srWw
  4. 4 or 5 years earlier...same thing, only with less wear and tear on the body and soul... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbjK9TZ3vnQ&feature=related
  5. If I may be allowed the liberty of quoting myself from another thread: Everything about the performance on the video, from the looks to the clothes, the freneticism of the tempo, everything, hey - that's a road gig in action right there. For better and for worse. You go all over the place with the same bunch of guys night after night, sometimes off the bus just long enough to setup & play and then get back on, you crotch and ass get sweaty, you mind goes numb and brittle simultaneously, and sometimes you play faster than shit just because that's the only place left. That tempo is faster than anywhere except MaxLand, and the whole freakin' band is in there. Nobody looks really happy either...weary is more like it. But - this is what a road gig gets to. This is the seasoning that you can't get anywhere else. And now that it's not available, it's absence is being felt. Sure Sal was feeling tired and trapped by it by this time. But there he was, and there he did. Reality ain't always pretty, but it sure can be gripping.
  6. May I suggest UP-grading to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-CsVToxnNI&feature=related
  7. My sentiments exactly. But that would upset the natural order of things, doncha' know... The BDSDs aren't fully unhypnotized yet.

  9. Dumb Trick-or-Treaters who are just now finding the house. Sorry, candy's gone, come back after Easter.
  10. So it is an opera. Thought so. And an opera has to be classified in a "record guide" and as "classical" or else it's a musical, even though it's an opera. Gotta keep those gates safe, apparently.
  11. Pigs is pigs, period. But it ain't right nor good for all the pigs to be in one place long enough that they think that them being there and staying is any kind of natural order of things. Because the only thing that is natural for a pig is for it to die. Wrong.
  12. Hey, you're married to Bob Theile, you get opportunities...
  13. Judges?
  14. Najee can play. He makes sucky records, but he can play. Back in the day, Don Pullen played with Charles Williams. If Najee would have been around then, him and Charles Williams would have been working the same type circuit, I'm sure. Different world, different market dynamics, whole lot of stuff is different now. But a lot of people who make sucky records can actually play. And I'll tell you who it would be a mistake to try to fuck with unless you had a half-deck of aces in the hole - Gerald Albright & Kirk Whalum. Bur, ok, odd pairing - George Coleman & Ahmad Jamal.
  15. It's those "ways of the world" that need not just a staggering, but a crushing blow. I'm under no illusions that such a blow can be delivered, especially since the only way to deliver it would be by somebodies whose real goal is little more than to make the "ways of the world" their ways for their world (see BDSD). Count me as not believing anything until about Lee's choice until the papers are signed. And count me among those who want to see justice done in the latter days of whatever absurdass deal that whoever gets him ponies up. That shit is just nuts. But - count me in at the frontline of those who think that a staggering blow to the ways of the world is overdue, well-deserved, just, and inevitable (and not only in the world of baseball), no matter who finally delivers it.
  16. Is this a Twitter thing or something? Because I've been looking all over the LSB Website http://www.lonestarball.com/ for all this & can't find nothing.. Can I buy a clue, please? See comments in Saturday a.m. Ranger things...the "Incarcerated Bob" discussion starts several hundred comments down. Ok, got it, thanks. That is not a user-friendly format they got goin' on there, not at all...

  18. "1 & 3? Still? Really?"
  19. Received a tune today via email called "Let Me Ask" with the chorus "Why do the biggest assholes end up running the music world?". It's a Les McCann-ish "Compared To What"-ish groove, and the vocalist sounds like a really hoarse/worn out Ben Sidran. Has anybody else heard this, and if so, can confirmation be provided as to the actual artist?
  20. Once one behooves, crotch protection is rendered irrelevant.
  21. If you are a man of honor, you have nothing to fear except Jerrys named Jones, out of control BDSDs, and not paying your debts in some form or fashion. Creativity is allowed. As far as the testicles, they are alledgedly quite tasty. People coming from miles around say so, and so do people on the Food Network, all of whom would know far better than I.
  22. Mr. Lee must pay his debt. In blood if necessary. Testicles are not off limits either, be they his, a pig's, or a bull's. In the case of the latter two, there is also the side-benefit of edibility. There must be honor in this world, or else we all become hooved.
  23. Shaking hands with the devil is always fun...it's when your hands start shaking after he walks away that gets kinda unpleasant... http://barkingcarnival.fantake.com/2010/12/10/look-mr-steinbrenner/ My advice to all teams everywhere, recruit yourself some BDSDs of your own, and then pretend it never happened.
  24. Don't think he was actually in Liberace's "band", just think that he was in the hotel staff/pit orchestra who accompanied Liberace in Vegas. Nowadays, it's mostly all "shows" with prerecorded backing tracks.
  25. This trip is one way - no need to rehoove, just to pay up. Trip, then flip.
