  1. Because people can stay serious about revolution for only so long...
  2. That's perfectly in keeping with the tone & attack here...I loved that cut, btw. No idea it was Jenkins...pretty revealing, actually.
  3. The chick is really Jesus.
  4. So what about music? Visual arts (a picture is worth a thousand words?)? Dance? Etc.? Even planned physical violence against another individual?!?!?! Or thoughts communicated strictly through body language &facial expressions?!?!?!?! Language = words is a very...primitive way of looking at things, no?
  5. Try clicking in a "neutral" area of the Hotmail page and see if then you can get the hover/highlight thing to work. It's still a click, but once you get that first one going, the arrow eys should be good to go afterward. I'm sure there's a keyboard combination for that, I'm told that in theory you can run Windows totally off of a keyboard, but some of them are so bizarre, it's like...why bother? I don't mind clicking, but I do try to keep it to a reasonable (for me) minimum. Over the course of a day, it really does make a difference.
  6. Does thought drive perception, does perception drive thought, or are we actually considering different parts/manifestations of the same thing, a yin and a yang of a same thing which probably also involves a role for biochemistry that is more unknown now than known? "Language" is just a symbol, a signifier if you will, of even more primal/inner/whatevers than probably anybody can imagine at this particular juncture of our evolution.
  7. No immediate ideas here, but you might want to go back into Control Panel and look at your mouse settings to see what's available. But it doesn't work in my mailbox either. Remember, however, that once anything is highlighted in your mailbox, you can use the arrow keys to navigate instead of mouse-clicking.
  8. I think you're correct. Nah. Festival = Party, at which music is also/still an accessory. Might be the accessory that justifies the party, but still... I mean, it's ok w/me, really, but I don't think you're creating a new generation of "serious listeners" at festivals and such. Not that you'd want to, really, probably wouldn't, in fact (create a new generation of "serious listeners" either at festivals or away from them, I think one is either going to be or not going to be, sooner or later, all attempts at proselytizing aside) , I'm just sayin'... This pretty much sums it up for me too. I'd also add that "most people" have never had discerning ear or tastes, they just want something that "sounds like" what they want/need to hear at any given moment becuase let's face it - "most people" have more pressing issues in their lives than mulling over whether Eric Clapton is a real player, an erratic marginality, or pretty much worthless. They just ain't got time to go there, if you know what I mean. And really, why should they? Between raising a family (really raising it, not just being in the house & showing up at certain events), paying bills, keeping your relationship together, not getting fucked over on your job, fighting various illnesses, etc etc etc, why the fuck should anybody feel a mandate to figure out Eric Clapton's rightful place in the world? The literal downsizing of the players & and of the media itself is in perfect sync with what "most people" like to use music for - a lifestyle accessory. Nothing more, nothing less. For people like "us", well, that's hard to fathom, but...we do it too. It's just that our lifestyle hings more on digging deeper. I know a lot of people say that they'd rather be dead than live without their music, but....really? I'd like to see that put to a real-life test and see how many people blink at the last minute...I bet we'd see a whole lot of players getting carted off to the graveyard and a whole lot of fans crying as they watch them go. And you know what, when it's all said and done, that's probably how it should be. I agree with almost all of this except... what if you went deaf? MG Then hey - problem solved!
  9. And a damn fine ride it is, too!
  10. Hey - Topic B is a sincere attempt to provide him information to keep him back!

  12. Oh HELL yeah! Also a good one to ease mouse dependency is Ctrl-Enter to send an email from Outlook. Once you get that one down, it's just a continuation of typing the message, no break to go reach for the damn mouse...
  13. Also, if you cut/copy & paste a lot, it's probably criticial to learn the keyboard coomand for these functions so you're not just riding the mouse all damn day, 24-7... Cut = Ctrl-X Copy = Ctrl-C Paste = Ctrl-V For that matter, Find = Ctrl-F These are some commands that many of us use more times per day that we realize, and using the keyboard commands balances the workload out between hands/wrists/fingers and removes the relentless clicking that a lot of people seem to accept as necessary. It's anything but. Those four commands all use keys that are bunched in a group on the keyboard, and on the first three it's really low-stress to toggle functions between hands, using the mouse only to select what is to be cut, copied or pasted. Plus, if its files or list-items you're moving, once you're set up to single-click, you don't even have to click them to select it/them. you simply hover/drag you mouse over them (if they're sequential) while holding down the Shift key. From what I can see, most of us do far more mouse-clicking that is necessary...
  14. So you have your mouse set for single-click functionality? If not, you should. I mean, seriously - 50% fewer clicks during the course of a day is 50% less wear on both you and your mouse. The latter is no big deal, but the former kinda is... Sorry Jim, I don't understand that - but it sounds very helpful. MG Go into control Panel, then Folder Options. There you select the single click option. What that does is that now when you have a list from which to select, simply hovering your mouse over the item will select it, & then you'll only have to click once to open it. You'll never have to double-click again. Believe me, it makes a difference,
  15. I'd like to make a motion.

  23. I don't think that's Monday... I think it's spam for that website...those are cut-and-paste quotes from various newsletters... But god knows we need more MondaySpirit in the music, and in the world, of today. At least I know I do.
  24. Great stuff indeed - but visit Ellery Eskelin's blog! It's pretty new, and it's pretty good reading.
