  1. I got it. Pretty neat. How much of the "conversations" in the book are imaginary vs being based on things that have come out over time?
  2. For decades, it was the only available recording of the legendary quartet that played the Five Spot, but near-universal opinion of those who knew is that the band was a lot better live.
  3. George Gobel Lonesome Sundown Tony Orlando & Dawn
  4. Randy Wood Jeremy Irons Putter Smith
  5. Tip o' the iceberg, Benny, tip o' the iceberg!
  6. Yeah, explore the possibilities!
  7. Oh, ok. (he said, fighting off a swelling urge to go all Mingus and shit...)
  8. They're doing Throwback Mountain Dew too.
  9. The Flo & Eddie shit is great comedy-rock. Unlike Weird Al (who is pleasant - and meaningless - enough), it's real comedy & real rock. IMO, of course!
  10. If all you're wanting is a "sound" to play simple background patterns on a recording, but aren't, for whatever reason, going to do the work to get a real tone & technique, just get a keyboard with some good patches.
  11. Freak Out is best understood as a postlude to http://globalia.net/.../Burt_Ward.html http://www.youtube.c...h?v=03F4nmPow9M http://www.youtube.c...h?v=AjoLQbJCPTI http://globalia.net/.../Burt_Ward.html I think that "How Could I be Such A Fool" is a perfectly beautiful pop song, and that "Help I'm A Rock" is just....fine. As is. I pretty much dig Zappa from when he was just cynical. It's when he got bitter that he lost me.
  12. Never made - never pursued - the "1:00 route", but was definitely there during Breeden's heyday (74-79). The man's dedication to his vision as he saw it is certainly noteworthy, and cause for respect to be paid at whatever level one sees fit. It was a dedication that never waned in its intensity. I will say this - seeing him (all band rehearsals save a very few were open to student attendance, a most admirable policy, I believe) literally turn the 1:00 over to Lyle Mays in the 74-75 year was one of the most interesting - and downright fun - ongoing musical experiences I've ever seen. Whatever Breeden's own "bag" was, his willingness to put it aside - surrender it, really - to serve the development of what was a very unique and special talent is something that should be noted as long as the man's name is mentioned.
  13. There is no live stuff on the Jazzland LP.
  14. She sure doesn't sleep on yours or mine...
  15. San Antonio's nice if you like that type of thing. Dallas is ok if you know where to look, and if you're in town when it's happening like that. Otherwise, the effort/reward ratio is not conducive to random touristostity. Houston is Houston - an acquired taste I've not yet fully acquired. The only thing Austin has going for it is that Austin thing, which is enough for many people, just not for me. My advise - get really high and go to Carlsbad Caverns instead. Do it now and thank me later.
  16. The dots are kinda far apart sometimes...

I don't have a subscription to the online archives. Is he still on the rock?
  19. I don't think I'll live long enough to not be taken aback by seeing RCA Victor material issued by Columbia.
  20. Lover Carol (the fine people of) Sorrento
  21. Wait 'til you hear her brother John Shankar ...
  22. Only of that's how the guy bought it in the thrift store...
  23. Does this mean all the John & Yoko & George "experimental" stuff too?
