  3. I've heard total brilliance, total bullshit, and pretty much everything in between from Keith over the years. No doubt he's a head case. I would pay a reasonable price to hear him live. I would be pissed off if he stopped playing altogether, amused if he gave some of those goofyass "lectures" after stopping and then resumed playing. If there were no "incidents", and he played straight through, I'd expect anything from total brilliance to total bullshit, and pretty much everything in between on any given night. That's Keith. He's an orange. People want an apple, go buy an apple. He's how old now, 97? 123? Good luck on anything changing at this point. Life goes on.
  4. The Threadgill stuff is more than fine, imo. And at < $9.00 per CD and remastered (hopefully well), it's a helluva deal. This and the upcoming Mosiac make it possible to, in two fell swoops, to learn and/or "catch up" with one of the major-yet-relatively-unheralded "jazz" figures of our time. Of course, that's just my opinion, and if anybody disagrees, well then, go right on ahead, you have the right. To be wrong.

  8. For those who don't know, Edward Kihl was kind of a "distinguished figure" in his time & place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eduard_Khil http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article7061690.ece Context is everything, I guess...

  10. To me, it's a multi-media presentation of stimulating, uh....proportions!
  11. There is a Beatles mashup called "I Long To Hold Tall Sally" that puts Paul's vocal from "Long Tall Sally" over the backing track of "I Want To hold Your Hand" & then for the brdiges uses parts of "If I Fell". The bridges are a little dicey in spots, but the main body of the song is like a cold, hard slap in the face as far as getting inside decades' worth of mental & musical conditioning & just blowing it all to hell. That's what I personally find most engaging about the whole mashup/remix/whatever/etc thing, at least when it works. I'm a fan of comfort, but not of complacency. It's a fine line to walk sometimes, but...
  12. The Ames Brothers invented the Rock and the Roll, doncha' know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLR4bmfo38M And Ed Ames perfected it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQ5MxSmOdOQ

  19. geezus christ dude, gimme a break - ONE MORE TIME: there is no "objective artistic standard that says unequivocally that they are wankers because of the choices they have made". that's just my opinion, and if you have issues with me having that opinion & expressing it with somewhat the same intensity as I feel it (believe me, I tone it down for "public consumption..."), in other words, if my opinion upsets you so much that you try to convince me that I think it's a fact when I know good and goddamned well that it's nothing but an opinion, then I have to question who's projecting control-freak issues onto whom. I mean, really - what part of "this is my opinion" do you not understand?
  20. What was under discussion there - and in most other such instances - was the player, not the listener/fan. Huge difference. And when it comes to players and the decisions they make, you're damn right I have some strong opinions, and some damn solid reasons for having them. I've had to make them myself, and I have the same justifications, opinions and reasons for my decisions as they do for theirs. If any player doesn't then they are really worthless. But if they do, hey...passion is a good thing that does not always lead to orthodoxy. So be it. But of COURSE!
