They were all wonderful (although Ben Riley was maybe not always wonderful). But for the working band drummers, I still get a kick out of Frankie Dunlop.

"Modern mainstream" big band, the type of record I usually am more than happy to ignore, but this one is consistently engaging. Expert writing, fresh (enough) ideas, and executions that speak to a deep understanding of the writing. Recommended, actually, withe the caveat that no new ground is being broken. None. Rich soil, however, is being cultivated lovingly and responsibly.
