    Tiny Grimes

Yeah, and it was you who hipped me to that early 70s Columbia thing called The Guitar Album, which has some live Grimes from the time that is....heavy.

  5. Don't know if I can get with that type metric, but...I know what you're saying, and what I will say is that where that band started and where it ended up is one of the most rapid, thorough, and irrevocable evolutions in the history of known music. It was a band that pretty much left nothing unfinished, and that goes for Wayne as well. When everybody involved "moved on", it was basically because they had to, either that or else just quit. That's a very rare thing to find, never mind just in music, but in life.
  6. Hey yo! Just checked & much the same happened to me. I'm $4.98 short...all things considered, I hope it's the Stitt... And it was.
  7. Fritz the Cat Gato Barbieri Zez Confrey
  8. "Rock A Doodle Reveille" by LeRoy & Wally (who turn out to be Leroy Glover & Wally Richardson, a fact I did not know until just now...WALLY RICHARDSON!!!) Don't ask me how or why, but I've had this 45 for as long as I can remember being alive...somehow a copy ended up in my room when I was about 4 or 5 ...and if you're thanking to yourself "damn, that rooster sound (just what the hell IS that anyway????) would've freaked me out if I was a 4 year old...well, trust me, yeah, it would have.
  9. How so? Anita sings it like this (all caps emphasizing how she accents, which is tricky in the first two lines but on the money, I think): There's not ONE boy for me - I must HAVE two or three, I need Four. First, the man who's the type to like slippers and pipe at the door. Then, IF at all possible I'd like the kind WHO's not very bossable But knows his mind. If you ADD to these few one that KNOWS how to woo dogpatch style Then this man of my world will be spangled and pearled with his smile AND though it's incredible I've found it's true That my four-in-one boy is nobody else but you. Ok, I see now...the words bolded and blued must be sung as quarter notes, which is not how anybody I know plays the tune instrumentally. But it does work!
  10. Oh...my...god...

  12. Surely those lyrics aren't complete. Asis, they don't fit with the song.

  16. See, there was actually a time when "giving away" music was viewed as a good promotional tool...Don't know what that one went for, Bev, but the WB/Reprise samplers were $1.00 per record.

    Blue Note

So, the chick really did cross the road to get to the other side. Who knew?
  18. Annie Haslam colaborated with Roy Wood, but Joni collaborated with Wayne Shorter, so...there you go!
  19. Pretty much waht hit me from note one...Johnny Griffin was a NATURAL man!
  20. There is a woman who need never be without a date, if she can handle dating musicians and jazz fans...
  21. I was wondering about that too. I haven't read the whole thread, but all I've recently seen were posts about the Stitt set being unavailable. I gotta think that $4.98 for a triple-disc set was a pricing error & that they either sold our super-fast or somehow froze the stock for a future repricing.
  22. Yeah, hard to believe now, but WB/Reprise used to have a reputation as an "artist's label" from the late 60's thru the mid 70s...they even tried to get people to listen to Van Dyke Parks by, what was it, giving away or selling for a penny, copies of Song Cycle...it was a different time then...
