  1. Or else they would try to airbrush(?) the old logo off, which was always good for a laugh.

  8. Verve only put out full performances of a fraction of the tunes that Revelation released. If somehow the full performances of all the material could be found & released, then we would have world peace. Forever. So get it done for the world. But if not, the two The Art Of Improvisingalbums are two of the most important documents of jazz tenor playing in the history of this or any other world, past, present, or future. They have circulated perhaps more than you know, but only among the very, very hardcore. Perhaps that is how it should be, perhaps not. But that is how it is. Warne was one of the baddest of the bad. Attention must be paid or else what little truth is left in the world is in jeopardy.

  10. Yeah, this stuff is PRIMO.
  11. That was the original mono mix of River Deep, Mountain High that was released as a 45. My hip father bought a copy of that 45 when it first came out and it blew my mind. The mix on the later LP, a primitive early stereo experiment that put Tiny much lower in the mix, always sucked compared to the 45. Unfortunately, most CD reissues have used the LP version. a-HA! I'ver only once heard the Philles 45 version, and it is as you say - and then some! And I've told everybody since that unless you've heard the 45, you haven't hear "River Deep, Mountain High". This video would of course be an edited version, right, due to the length? I gotta start hunting eBay for a Philles 45....

  13. Yeah, a lot of people get so focused on the energy and the sexiness of Tina and the dark side of Ike that their combined musical qualities sometimes get overlooked.

  18. Nah, the English titles I've seen mentioned are American songs. This album is all compositions by Augustin Lara. Well known to the target audience, but certainly not American standards, semi, or otherwise.
  19. I recently came across this album on Capitol by Lucho Gatica called Lara by Lucho. It's a gorgeous album of boleros, and more than a few of the arrangements sound more than a little like the work of Nelson Riddle (and better than usual Riddle at that). I see no arranging credits on the cover, and the album sounds as if more than one arranger was involved. I have found mention of Riddle & Latica collaborating on some english-language cuts, but these are, obviously, todo en Espanol. Does anybody know of a good Nelson Riddle board, or group, or anything/anyplace where an expert could give a definitive answer on whether or not Riddle's work is or is not heard on this album? As always, thanks in advance.
