  1. Those were bands, not Billy Cobham. That's not how it works
  2. Bill Barron was an extremely fresh player and writer!
  3. So? Those were individual contracts not relevant to this one session. And when was Billy Cobham signed to Columbia at all?
  4. At least as important as Tina Brooks, if by "important" you mean having an original approach to the instrument and to music in general. Definitely. If you mean easily packaged for Blue Note fetishists who would have not known any better had Cuscuna not justifiably taken up his cause, then no.
  5. It's a database/server/archiving thing. Not terribly aware of the granular tech specifics, but barring a matter of national/world/interplanetary existential security and/or heinously felonious activity, it seems to be not do-able without some seriously heavy/expensive tech-lifting. So as I preached to my kids, don't be sorry, be careful!!!!!

    Sam Noto

    And he's Canadian!
  8. It is still my contention that Bill Barron could be the Tina Brooks of the 21st Century...if this wasn't the 21st Century...
  9. Mods do not have the ability to restore a deleted thread. Sorry. Ownership might?
  10. Kay and Sarah Wuddleby - Now We Have Children Of Our Own!!!
  11. I'm going with the notion that the money was funny in the first place and nobody wants to open that up today.
  12. Fred Riker - It's Riker Time!!!

Dolphy touring for Granz? Details please!!!
  16. With which mix?
  17. This record sounds like a good late 70s Sonny Rollins record as filtered through David Matthews production, and of course. Ronnie Cuber as Sonny Rollins. Which is to say that the star soloist plays with a level of energy that surpasses both lesser accompaniment and material that is functional for the purpose at hand. Proof again that making a paycheck record is no excuse for not coming to play!

Oliver Nelson would have been the one to utilize them both.
  19. And that is surely Bud Shank.
  20. Bletsey - Baby Onside, Baby Offside
  21. He arranged for The Monkees.
  22. Mr. Buttermilk (and Fred) - Creamy Plankton Soups!!!
