Did you know that Jimmy Smith paled a janitor on one or two episodes of the first Bill Cosby Show? The one where he played a coach named Chet Kincaide. His character's name was "Jim".

They all have a mancrush on Mick Jagger, they do.
  8. Moon was a great label at the time. Internet file-sharing still wasn't a real thing, so getting these grey-market things was a real opportunity. I carpe diemed like a big dog, especially with all the Miles stuff...my first chance to hear the Lost Quintet...it was a fully funded reality check, that was. Nowadays, paying money for them is usually a matter of either impatience, ignorance, or a need to collect items.
  9. One might also take tremendous joy from the record Chuck mentions as well!

  11. Got a video: And on comment says: An audio recording is only available on the compilation 'Those Were The Days'. That's a grey market item on the Moon label: https://www.discogs.com/release/11338720-Dexter-Gordon-Those-Were-The-Days

  14. Was this weight-related? Heart attack or something? For those of us who are in a constant battle with/against compulsive eating, this is a very sobering reminder that nothing is free. Not only that, but the bill always comes due. RIP

Nor architectural instincts, either. That stuff just blops out there, like Billy May writing too drunk to write (if that was even possible?) I seem to recall that at some point he realized his shortcomings and tried to get better? This arranging shit isn't easy, there's more to it than just filling up space with generic action figure discards, right?

That record of Joe Williams and Basie, why write charts that don't sound at all like Basie, I mean, really? I never bought this as a standalone record, nor would I recommend that anybody do. It's just some sillyass foofaw minkalinga. Also, are we sure that Sonny Payne is the drummer here? Really? Color me skepectical.

  21. Fern Jones wasn't fucking around with this stuff.
  22. Actually, I think it him recording his practice at home, I think this is the one that was rumored to have been removed from his home by some unscrupulous character in the wake of his sudden and unexpected death.
  23. It's a practice tape, basically. A good listen for what it is.
