  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merle_Travis just to know who he was. He was a huge influence within his realm.
  5. Is that M. Monroe? Did she really smoke? No wonder she died young!
  6. Merle Travis was more-or-less the proto finger-picker, Chet Atkins before there was Chet Atkins.
  7. Yeah, too little too late. Same thing with Zappa doing them. In real time, I noticed a small but noticeable decrease in musicality from, say, Cream to Zep, and by the time Grand Funk came out of the musical rectum, the kids were NOT all right, the kids were more than willing to swallow that turd whole, over and over again. I moved on with no regrets - and with no hesitancy. One of the better life choices I've made (not that there were all that many...).
  8. GRAND FUNK RAILROAD!!!!! The band that single-handedly and forevermore turned me off of "Rock" What a precedent-setting mountainous pile of rancid dogshit. Fitting that they were on the same label (in America) as the group that got me into it in a big way less than a decade before - The Hollyridge Strings!!!!!
  9. Capitol also had a small but interesting Classical catalog, notably the Hollywood String Quartet.
  10. I thnk it was the other way around?
  11. Anne Murray AND Helen Reddy!!!!!
  12. This is one of the essential guitar records:
  13. Tennessee Ernie Ford Jimmy Bryant/Speedy West Buck Owens Merle Haggard Tex Ritter Hank Thompson Wanda Jackson Just ALL kinds of White People!!!! Al Martino The Lettermen Bobby Gentry Glen Campbell Roy Clark and Ed Townsend!!!!!
  14. Because they play the stock market instead?
  15. Trumpet section is usually on risers, so it's not a direct hit. OTOH, asked somebody who has a ride cymbal up in their ear all damn night...
  16. The Orchestra of the 80s records are really strong as well.
  17. The same thing, in Anglo-American English.
  18. Yeah, well, that was a big one and slack should not be given for it. Nobody's perfect.
  19. Robin (The Pleasant Plumber) & The Hintz - No More Stink In The Sink

  21. What, these aren't original compositions?
  22. It's a live date, sounds like, maybe. Matana tears it up, whenever it was.

  24. http://www.onehitwondersthebook.com/?page_id=13811 “Go With Me,” their first folkie-flavored 45, charted at number 78 in 1967, and was followed by “Playboy.” Gene & Debbe’s future looked bright; they appeared on TV shows and made the nightclub rounds. Later in the year, their third single, “Lovin’ Season,” reached number 81 on the Hot 100, but only briefly. Nothing the duo recorded would ever sell as well as these disks. Gene returned to his staff position at Acuff-Rose, and Debbe disappeared into the wilds of anonymity. I hope she stayed sober and got a good man who heard what I hear in that voice and that they both proceeded accordingly.
