  1. I remember a trumpet-playing third baseman for the Cubbies: He married singer Sue Raney...
  2. I saw Burgess play (in person) late in his career, when he was a noted pinch hitter. Another famous PH (not to be confused with the wrestling namesake):
  3. In the hoops domain, God Shammgod (I remember, back in NYC high school ball, he was only Shammgod Wells) ain't too shabby.
  4. This is potentially endless...just off the top of my head: Leron Lee Rabbit Maranville Heinie Manush Bombo Rivera Rube Waddell Grover Cleveland Alexander Pepper Martin Enos Slaughter

    Benny Golson

I'm not a Golson expert, but got Stockholm Sojourn in last summer's "Concord Blow-Out". It's OK, but not memorable, and doesn't get played very much. I'd go with various other titles recommended in this thread.
  6. Mercedes Ruehl Frank Beamer Audie Murphy
  7. Tiger Woods (duh) Minnie Driver Jeremy Irons
  8. Peter Bonerz Andy Roddick Harvey Pekar
  9. Gary Cooper Jon Voight Ernest Hemingway
  10. Matsuzaka on the cover of Sports Illustrated's MLB preview issue... Will the notorious "SI cover jinx" apply?
  11. I get sniped all the time. Got irritated the first couple of instances, but quickly concluded it's just part of the game. I console myself by thinking that, even if the sniper only beat me by 25 cents (or whatever), he probably would have been willing to go $10 (or whatever) higher in order to win...
  12. Tank Johnson Crash Davis Jerry Lee Lewis
  13. E-mailed on Counce, Hawkins+, Ervin.
  14. Alan Wiggins Chone Figgins John Riggins
  15. Rod Argent Horace Silver Gert Frobe
  16. Had around 16"-18" of snow in a "Nor'easter" Friday into Saturday. 2-3" more of snow showers overnight. Today is really windy, and everything's blowing around. Weirdly, it was close to 70 degrees (F) last Wednesday!
  17. Alfred Jarry Maurice Jarre Jerry Lewis
  18. Yes, the interpersonal "team spirit" thing is less important in baseball than in other team sports.
  19. Jim Beam Max Planck Studs Terkel
  20. Rue McClanahan Calle Johannson Ruta Lee
  21. Joseph Cotten Neal Broten Burt Shotton
  22. What does Don Cherry think? Probably a lot less than 40...
  23. I was hoping someone'd mention Two Horns / Two Rhythm . Bit of a strange ensemble without piano (KD plays a brief piano intro on one track), but Henry and KD are in excellent form. One outtake from this session is on Henry's Last Chorus CD.
  24. Big Playah T. Luthor (using nick; the ones using my real name were very lame)
