  4. Yeah, I started road cycling in 2001. Used to be a distance runner, but the knees and joints were getting too sore. Prefer road (don't own a MTB), because mtn seems too technical and trails tend to be too humid for my liking. Usually start riding in late March or early April, hang it up in late Nov or early Dec, run/walk/snowshoe over the winter. I've done a fall "century" each of the past two years, to take the place of marathons I used to run. Centuries are a lot easier, but still give a feeling of accomplishment and require some training. I wear the goofy clothes because it's more effective (jerseys have pockets, tight shorts w. pads are most comfortable if you go distances). I usually ride by myself, am slow but have stamina and do OK on hills (western/central Catskills have a lot of big ones). Group rides (clubs, bike shops) require some pack-riding skills and can get competitive. Usually do 20-75 miles at a time, favorite long weekend rides in the 60-75 mi range. I most often ride in the general vicinity of the Pepacton Reservoir. From Kingston, you should be able to find some good routes toward the Ashokan Reservoir and Rondout Valley.

For my state taxes I have to fill out 1/2 of their underpayment form (the easy parts), before hitting the magic line that says I owe no penalities or interest. Why I have to do this in a dozen lines when 1 saying "did you pay 100% of last year's owed" would do the trick is beyond me, but that's tax authors for ya! I then up the estimated for this year's to 100% of last. Only in bad years do I get a refund. Yeah, I had decent capital gains last year, so had to go through all the rigmarole. The state (NY) "underpayment of estimated tax" was a mild pain, because I didn't pay 4 equal installments (increased them slightly, figuring that I had some gains. This is, economically speaking, irrational, but I feared the spectre of a massive 4/16 payment. ). If you paid 4 equal installments, totaling at least last year's tax, it's an automatic and quick out. Otherwise you have to go through a worksheet. I wound up avoiding penalty, because each estimated payment was at least 1/4 of the required amount (last year's tax bill), but it was an annoyance. And I had to up my estimated payments a lot for this year. But capital gains means that I at least made some money, so I shouldn't complain too much... And I had to do all my stuff early, in order to mail on Saturday, because we had a massive nor'easter which was expected to (and indeed did) shut everything down on Sun and Mon.

It seemed pretty clear that Imus attracted the lion's share of advertising dollars...in fact, his 10AM signoff used to be an extended put-down of the remaining 20 hours of WFAN programming, in terms of both profitability and content. I know nothing about Mancow, but doubt that a new personality could be successful without NYC roots. Imus went way back as a NYC DJ (WNBC? I remember weird chemically-induced rantings in the early 1980s. He went to Cleveland for a while, but was regarded as a NY figure).
