hi forgive me if this has been covered before, are their 'masters' simily the original us commerical issued cds for this stuff, or did they make a DAT from the commerical cds and then run that off, cause it has to do w/ the copywright expring in europe, right? eg. 8 lps worth of red garland on 4 cds, etc.....

@mathew again, lol-- do u know this story http://www.sandiegor...son-got-busted/

@ Matthew- love you could very well be my favorite #1 BB's lp. it is a fusion of retro style tunes with futuristic production, the album is amazing. i know i read an interview w/ Peter Buck (REM) who said too it was his fave. it flopped beacuse it was their last album for Reprise after the boys were already slated to go over to to cbs, so Reprise just said screw it since they were loosing the band anyway and stuff---so they did no promotion and a ton of them went straight to cutout. that also means its easy to find sealed copies of it even today, i have a couple

re- keen & peachy by shorty rogers is this a direct Mobley-West Coast Jazz connection-point, or what? was this song 1st done by woody herman orch.? can anyone hip me to some early west coast albums its on, what shorty solo lps is it on, if any. so, if hankenstein knew this tune, or anyone in the band for that matter, west coast jazz was somewhat known by these cats? or is this song "national" cause the woody orch. brought this music all over the country UPDATE- Bird played this tune in 1950 at the pershing ballroom, not that hank would know that, but yea....

WHAT THE HELL!?!? are you freaking kidding me? theres more footage of the gilmore-morgan group. god i wished this band recorded in the studio (for labels other than limelight). although im startled to see this, im not suprised. what the heck is the trading circle for this sort of stuff, it must be so exclusive. this one youtube guy (in i think brazil) has it -all-! its only a matter of time till a mobley vid arises. he played concert halls in europe too, not just clubs.

New batch of Fresh Sound reissues
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez replied to mikeweil's topic in Re-issues
is there potential for these needledropped cds to sound real good, if done correctly. i have a compact disc of Rick Wright/ZEE-idenity, its a needledrop, but its amazing, it completely sounds like a good transfer from an actual mastertape, so good infact i sold my copy of the original lp + now have the needledrop as my prefered version for this album -
so they were a small time label, at a time when capitol had zero interest in releasing bluenote material, so they let them release some masters, at "low" cost? yea i know the album kind of sucks, i just never have seen it on CD before. yea ive heard that before two, how her solos were all written out on paper
