  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoXhUWMYwYs i saw him once, 15 yrs ago- he is still rockin' it hardcore. seems he only plays in europe now, would love to see him again, wish he would do a club tour or something like that
  2. hi forgive me if this has been covered before, are their 'masters' simily the original us commerical issued cds for this stuff, or did they make a DAT from the commerical cds and then run that off, cause it has to do w/ the copywright expring in europe, right? eg. 8 lps worth of red garland on 4 cds, etc.....
  3. @mathew again, lol-- do u know this story http://www.sandiegor...son-got-busted/
  4. @ Matthew- love you could very well be my favorite #1 BB's lp. it is a fusion of retro style tunes with futuristic production, the album is amazing. i know i read an interview w/ Peter Buck (REM) who said too it was his fave. it flopped beacuse it was their last album for Reprise after the boys were already slated to go over to to cbs, so Reprise just said screw it since they were loosing the band anyway and stuff---so they did no promotion and a ton of them went straight to cutout. that also means its easy to find sealed copies of it even today, i have a couple
  5. jimmy forrest's night train- not the 78, nor 45, but the UNITED full length, this lp is quite scarce, expect to be searching for a long while before finding one
  6. what what what? you mean wilton on bass and bennie maupin on sax. no disrect to wilton on sax, but: whoaaa!!!
  7. does anyone know the story of how Wilton Felder started doing gigs w/ people on electric pass in the 70s, i mean i know him primarily as a horn player but he is on fender bass on jimmy smith root down, grant green live at the lighthouse.....others too im sure....whats up w/ that?
  8. i see. still, it is a pretty cool mobley tangent. im still grouping it in w/ Hank/Julius Watkins, which is the most wcj-esque blowin' we even got from a hank-related context
  9. http://www.ebay.com/...=item27c6166a60 i thought this was interesting, most of the bn lps w/ stereo stickers i have are from the '57-'59 timeframe, but here is a sidewinder stereo copy with the sticker. i didnt know they were doin those foil stickers that late (?) when was the sidewinder released exactly, early 64, or actually in 1963. was this the last time they used the sticker, i mean i dont recall seeing anything after this for sure
  10. re- keen & peachy by shorty rogers is this a direct Mobley-West Coast Jazz connection-point, or what? was this song 1st done by woody herman orch.? can anyone hip me to some early west coast albums its on, what shorty solo lps is it on, if any. so, if hankenstein knew this tune, or anyone in the band for that matter, west coast jazz was somewhat known by these cats? or is this song "national" cause the woody orch. brought this music all over the country UPDATE- Bird played this tune in 1950 at the pershing ballroom, not that hank would know that, but yea....
  11. WHAT THE HELL!?!? are you freaking kidding me? theres more footage of the gilmore-morgan group. god i wished this band recorded in the studio (for labels other than limelight). although im startled to see this, im not suprised. what the heck is the trading circle for this sort of stuff, it must be so exclusive. this one youtube guy (in i think brazil) has it -all-! its only a matter of time till a mobley vid arises. he played concert halls in europe too, not just clubs.
  12. can't wait for the lee morgan hollogram
  13. jsngry: THATS IT!??!? omfg. ive passed that up 40 times
  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/...c#ht_5936wt_882 i only discovered this album exists recently, are there any sources to hear it besides scoring an original, any cd reissues ever, etc....- i never knew period records could be so collectible- i have a django lp on this label and i believe some other stuff too. has any of u guys ever heard this session? sonny doing the pathethique theme as a jazz song, thats something i have to hear
  15. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Charles-Mingus-letter-on-Debut-stationery-/290696801631?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43aee12d5f#ht_500wt_985
  16. theres a redd foxx-hank mobley connection? why would the mc be the one to hire the band? thanks for finding that, thats amazing. i actually didnt know foxx was back east, i thought he was LA through and through, w/ all his early dooto stuff, etc.... did anyone who preordered w/ amazon receive theres yet?
  17. is there potential for these needledropped cds to sound real good, if done correctly. i have a compact disc of Rick Wright/ZEE-idenity, its a needledrop, but its amazing, it completely sounds like a good transfer from an actual mastertape, so good infact i sold my copy of the original lp + now have the needledrop as my prefered version for this album
  18. so they were a small time label, at a time when capitol had zero interest in releasing bluenote material, so they let them release some masters, at "low" cost? yea i know the album kind of sucks, i just never have seen it on CD before. yea ive heard that before two, how her solos were all written out on paper
  19. http://www.ebay.com/...=item3a72bcdca9 applause issue of FLUTE IN, this is strange- is this the only CD issue of this title? i dont recall seeing it elsewhere, i think ive seen an applause LP discog. but i know nothing of their cds. the only one ive seen in person is bobby hutcherson: natural illusions
  20. stoked to hear Hank's take on S'Wonderful--
  21. why do u think they didnt release both sessions as a package?
