  2. the only thing you need to know is it was on DOT records
  3. and some other guy said: The "Come on baby, light my fire" melody was lifted from Gil Evans "Jambangle". Friends of Gil urged him to sue, but Gil declined.

  6. i have a jaco pastorius story too. once, this bass player i know, but back in like the early early 80s, was walking in the downtown area, just walkin' along chillin' and he just sees jaco walkin commin twd him (goin in opp. direction).... and you see, since abe this guy was all into jazz and was a bass player and shit, of course he recgnoizes jaco immidiadetly- so he proclaims in a serious tone: "your jaco pastorious."-- and they got to talkin' and shit and apparently Jaco was just wandering around downtown, it was in the vicinity of a famous music/arts theater// jaco asked him if he can come over and chill or somethin and so he comes over and chills. Well anyways Jaco, stayed for THREE DAYS on guys couch, my friend remembered specifically he was watching a lot cartoons on tv- and he was there THREE WHOLE DAYS until my friend had 2 kick him out, lol.
  7. yes the cd, that too, but originally i believe i heard it on reel-to-reel: a dub of the orig. acetate// see acetates aren't designed to be played one billion times, you cant just chill with them- so this was 2nd generation; the 1st dub they did, then later through the years it lingered and i guess its the 90s or somethin or 80s this stash was conglomerated....actually i wouldn't be suprised if stormin' norman was behind the whole thing, the $ prob. isnt goin to more than a few people, wouldnt you think?
  8. if you have always heard, the way bird solos with mcshann is fucked up, dont believe them: it is pure charlie parker magic. you would be best off if you were to pay close attn.
  9. wish i had the whole lp but for the time being this comp'll do: four bros. is prob a standout track anyway.....
  10. Bird with McShann is a vital aspect to bird in concert: and i doubt u guys have heard about thsi one yet but bird on tenor (mcshann era) is also a vital bird-related document. i
  11. yes i know the 1st time i spun it too i thought wow, this is like, um, like exceptionally better and beyond any other funk-related prestige lp or funk lp in general ive ever heard: this was my 1st impression of this one...or was it Returns! w/ grant green...um, wait no i think it was this one...im pretty sure, or maybe it was rusty bryant 78rpm single on DOT, no, it was Sat. nite

  13. btw: red crown vinyl is good: reminds me of cal tjader, lol
  14. on the orig. 1st session....does lanphere solo on "four brothers"? i just discovered (in a stack by my couch) a crown compilation of "maxwell davis plays..."... does don lanphere play on the goodman, miller, hampton, shaw ,doresey prez prado, or charlie barnet or basie ones?

Kennedy was shot.....THEN GO BACK TO THE END TAG OF THE CHIFFONS SONG. Later they do a promo for Johnny Thunder-Cakes or someone like that b4 they cut back to more covereage....i think im gonna be sick, blech
  16. hey brownie, long time no view! hey thanks yeah im totally gonna spin this again tmw... i actually didnt know he was rec. solo that early...wow its so good. the rest of side A has songs from 7-14-32, and all of side be is a trio from 7-17-50 w. jc heard and al mckibbon, but the 1928 stuff is by far the best!

  22. WHY I ORIG. BROUGHT THIS UP BROOK BENTON & jessie belvin-- Crown Stereo CST 350 /// who sings what is anyones guess, but lp's tracks include: loves that way, no one like her love, steppin out tonight, girl of my dreams, by my side, what cha gone, only your love, my desire, dream house, senorita. got it for .99 of a big one, a lil of the upper left of the cover lp is ripped: besides that its mint
  23. In late 1959, with the encouragement of his wife and the support of producer Dick Pierce and arranger/conductor Marty Paich, Belvin went into the studio for three recording dates that yielded a dozen songs, among them intensely soulful covers of standards like "Blues in the Night," "In the Still of the Night," and "Makin' Whoopee." The band included Art Pepper on the sax and clarinet and Jack Sheldon on the trumpet, and the playing was extraordinary all the way around. Alas, Belvin never heard the finished album, Mr. Easy; on February 6, 1960
  24. now what exactly is that one on GIANT STEP?
