  1. A number of days (10+) of temps over 110 degrees. Pretty normal for here. With monsoon rain, it's a bit muggy, too. And to think, when I was a kid, I played baseball in that kind of weather all of the time. Now, I just want to stay inside with the trusty air conditioning.
  2. It's only money, right? I have the original CD releases of all of the albums listed (no RVGs). The Mosaic release *might* be a sonic upgrade. I've always been a Freddie fan; one of the very first Lps I bought as a kid was Sky Dive on CTI. I found out about the Atlantic years (IMHO, underrated) and the Blue Notes. All good. Yeah, I might splurge for a Mosaic box.
  3. Well, I'm on disc eight of the B&W set. The only one that I really didn't care much for (in general) was the Jack McVea sessions. I don't know why but they just didn't move me. The Phil Moore sessions sound a great deal like Nat King Cole (which I guess isn't all that surprising). They are pleasant.
  4. Well, I've made it to disc 5. Generally speaking, this has been a wonderful blast from the past and I've enjoyed it all. It's not music I would usually listen to but still, it's infectious and baby, I've got the fever!
  5. The line about the volume knob made me laugh out loud. Too funny.
  6. Well, I'm currently listening to disc one. Mosaic has done wonderful things with bad sources. The music sounds great and so far, am supremely happy with my purchase. The booklet seems slightly larger than most they have done. I have glossed over it... appears to be their usual thorough job though I wish there was a section about all the hassles they went through to get the rights to do the box. That's a minor quibble. It's a blessing and one of 2,500. If you haven't ordered it, you should consider doing so. Blessings.
  7. I could have kept going but now I'm refreshing my ears for the new Mosaic set arriving later today. I have most all of the CTI recordings... just a very few short, actually (and they happen to be Hubert Laws albums). I had most on Lp and they were bought new in the 70s. I don't know why but the JC Penney near where I grew up had a record department which carried CTI. A few years later, Tower Records moved in about a 1/2 mile from home. I used to buy Blue Note cut-outs at the Montgomery Ward close by. Had many Jimmy Smith and Stanley Turrentine from them. Ah, the good old days!
  8. If you're gonna listen to one, why not two...
  9. I'll bet I haven't heard this in 40+ years. Pretty commercial but pleasant.
  10. My understanding is that the box will be here on tomorrow. It's only gonna be 110+ degrees here. Hope it doesn't just melt into a box of goo.
  11. The first box set on CD that I bought (way back when) was the Brownie EmArcy box. I still pull it out and enjoy it from time to time.
  12. This Dizzy album was the very first bebop I listened to. I checked it out from the public library. I was 11 years old and it changed me forever. It had to be around '72 or '73.
  13. If you like reeds... this is a very fine album.
  14. If Coleman Hawkins' 1939 version of 'Body and Soul' isn't perfect, it's just so close to it that it doesn't matter. My opinion of course but after listening for 50 years, I'm entitled to having a few of them.
  15. Me too! Hope it doesn't melt on the way to the desert.
  16. No shipping notice for me either. Wondering why I'm never the first one. I mean, I have a pure heart... lol! I know I had to have one of the first orders; ordered on the first day it was offered. Oh well, I'll sit and wait for a while longer...
