  1. That scene never gets old for me. Even Fred Astaire was a fan, apparently! But those "splits" - ouch! About 20 years ago I was buying up the then new "Jazz in Paris" series and Nicholas was on one of them. Eight standards, all very enjoyable. I hadn't realized it was the same guy as the dancer though. Agreed about Nat King Cole btw. Just re-read the liners and apparently Nicholas "adored King Cole, Sinatra and Joe Williams". This is the CD I have... https://www.discogs.com/Harold-Nicholas-June-Richmond-Andy-Bey-Harold-Nicholas-June-Richmond-Andy-Bey/release/953500
  2. Big fan of Blind Willie Johnson. Track 9 is by Harold Nicholas (tap-dancing, ex husband of Dorothy Dandridge!) recorded in Paris, 1959.
  3. Jackie McLean - It's Time
  4. I remember listening to a podcast of Charles Tolliver in conversation, where he talked about Slugs saloon. He mentions that both he and Hank Mobley played there "a lot" (though not necessarily together), between 1962-65. But they did play together at Hank's house! He mentions Mobley from 18.40, but I recommend listening to all of it! Mentions John Ore earlier as well. https://podtail.com/en/podcast/gilles-peterson/strata-east-charles-tolliver-in-conversation/
  5. Charles Tolliver on trumpet!
  6. John Ore on bass? (Hank for sure)

  9. Great value that set. The other two cycles are fine as well.

  19. Just in case you haven't already done so, you could try contacting Jazzman UK directly. Never know what they have laying around. I've had luck this way with out of print titles.
  20. Also playing some Pollini. Beethoven's "Hammerklavier" (Sonata op.106) from the DG CD.
  21. You've inspired me to sneak in another one! Maurizio Pollini - Schumann's Fantasie Op.17 and Sonata No.1, Op.11(DG, 1973)
  22. Doing my best to avoid home chores on this sunny afternoon. Now playing Pollini's Stravinsky and Prokofiev (1972) - CD version also adds Boulez and Webern!
  23. Zoot Sims - Cookin'! (1961) Japanese CD reissue. Unfortunately still with the edited version of Love For Sale - it's cut to half it's length!

    Jimmy Deuchar

Forgot to mention that only one track (Desperation) on that Japanese "Cookin'" CD features Jimmy Deuchar. The original LP "Zoot At Ronnie Scott's" had 3. The Acrobat CD issue of Zoot Sims - At Ronnie Scott's 1961, has them. Also, playing this "Cookin'" disc now and was reminded that the Zoot track Love for Sale (without Deuchar) is edited to half it's length. Damn!
  25. Max Roach Quartet - Pictures In A Frame (Soul Note)
