  1. Yeah, I've got a vinyl copy, but I'd bet that if they put it out on CD they might manage to dig up some extra unreleased material from the gig. Wouldn't that be nice? Woody in top form. One of the "extras" not included on "Stepping Stones" appeared on one of his Columbia studio albums ("United" I think). Unfortunately it did not appear on the studio only Mosaic. The track is titled "Escape Velocity" and sounds quite a bit like "Impressions". Off the top of my head, I think it was written by "Larry Willis, Woody's pianist at the time. Any CD issue should at least include this.
  2. Timing is everthing. I bought the Blakey set on ebay last year for around $220.
  3. I saw him with the Mingus Big Band a few times. Been a while though.
  4. Yeah, I like that one a lot as well. Two of my favorite songs from that album and era are "Lord Of The Starfields" and "Starwheel". He's been playing the former on his current tour.
  5. McCoy Tyner "What The World Needs Now" More syrup than a maple tree!
  6. Yeah, me too. Went to college in Buffalo in the late 70s and discovered him on the Toronto radio station I used to listen to. "Humans" is also my fave of his and one of my all-time fave albums period. Agree with your comments about BC and the Bush administration. I know he did visit Iraq earlier this year to gain the perspective of the typical Iraqi in the street. Wouldn't be surprised if a song or two came out of that trip. In case you're interested, there's a lot of trading of BC's shows online, both from recent tours as well as tours from as far back as the 70s. PS-Thanks for the tip on the Allison. Plan to add it to my collection shortly.
  7. I've greatly enjoyed the other Allison titles I've heard. Will have to pick this one up. Interesting album cover you use as your ID Montg. A fellow Cockburn fan I assume.
  8. There's also Horos under both Adam's and Pullen's names as well. All three include Pullen, Adams and Richmond, among others. All were titled "Jazz A Confronto". Adams also did another LP for Horo titled "Suite For Swingers" on which Pullen appeared. Really looking forward to this set even though I likely have it all, unless there's unrelease stuff included. If nothing else the sound will likely be much improved.
  9. To my ears I always thought "Mingus Moves" sounded as much a Pullen-Adams 4tet recording as a Mingus one, not surprising when you look at the personnel. As a P-A fanatic, I certainly don't mind.
  10. Here's another Woody sideman rarity
  11. How does that compare with this one??? Woody Shaw with the Tone Jansa Quartet I have the latter, but not the former. Quite a good date too, I'll add (meaning the one I have, but I presume the date lead by Tone Jansa is just as good). IMHO, Dr. Chi is better.
  12. I tend to agree about Master vs. Night Music. I do like the cover for Night better though.
  13. I wonder how long it took him to post that listing with all those photos.
  14. Great news about the upcoming Hill with Shaw. Two of my favorite musicians. Some relative Woody rarities: As a leader: Night Music Master of the Art Both were recorded live in 1982 for the Elektra label. LP only. As a sideman: Roy Brooks: Duet in Detroit Tone Jansa: Dr. Chi Tone Jansa: Woody Shaw with the Tone Jansa Quartet The first is a series of duets between Brooks and Woody Shaw, Randy Weston, Don Pullen and Geri Allen, two tracks apiece. Took me a few years to track a copy of that one down.
  15. I picked this one up used a few years ago. Not among my fave Cherry but nice to have.
  16. Tapscott Sessions link
  17. As a Coltrane fanatic, I had to go with the Trane set. Can't go wrong picking any of them though.
  18. Thanks for bringing up that Beatles one Lon. Where are you finding all these great covers?
  19. Anyone have the Beatles butchered baby dolls one? Been years since I saw that.
  20. That's a great one Lon (the Getz)!
  21. I can see those. That Blakey is COOL!
