  1. Complete Don Pullen Blue Note Sessions (would include the sessions co-led with George Adams) Complete Horace Tapscott Nimbus Sessions Complete Horace Tapscott Interplay Sessions
  2. I don't see the first two either.
  3. Also, Randy Weston who really IS a giant.
  4. Don't forget about Roy Haynes who's played with just about everyone. Saw him last year and he played and looked like someone half his age.

    Phil Grenadier

Let me jump on the wagon of Phil-Phans. Both albums are excellent. As I'm also a Seamus Blake fan, I've got to admit being ever so slightly partial to the first disc.
  6. Of the three I have, my favorite is JUMPING IN THE SUGAR BOWL. Title track is a killer.
  7. Chico Hamilton arrived today. Now I'm really kicking myself for not ordering more sets.
  8. Me too. I planned on ordering additional sets once I saw how it went with the Hamilton. Oh well.
  9. I just received an email indicating that they had shipped out the Chico Hamilton.
  10. Now I know what Fred Gwynne did before he became Herman Munster. Cool site!
  11. I'm sure she deserves Mosaics as well.
  12. I don't know about sick, looks kinda propped up to me, almost like a mannequin.
  13. My vote is for Woody Shaw's "Solid". Thankfully I have the orignal Muse version.
  14. They shoulda just contracted their cover art out to Vogue magazine and gave the graphics director another job. On the other hand, the mind that was capable of coming up with these artistic concepts....is a mind best being placed in quarantine somewhere. These make all the bad ones worthwhile!
  15. I third it!
  16. Seems too good to be true BUT I just ordered the Chico Hamilton set which I was going to order from Mosaic shortly anyway. Keeping my fingers crossed.
  17. you should look for this Nathan Davis CD This might give an impression of how Woody sounded in these days... not that I was able to hear that (as I was born some fifteen years later), but the first part of this disc is great. The second album included features Carmell Jones and Francy Boland (of the KCFBBB). The CD is OOP, but maybe you can find it somewhere. I have the disc, as I've been gradually tracking down everything he recorded. Unfortunately for me I discovered Woody AFTER he died. Really wish I'd been able to catch him live.
  18. How was his playing then? He was in a group that included Nathan Davis and Larry Young. This was pretty exciting music. Nathan Davis was the main man in the group. Woody Shaw already was a great improviser with a neat sound. They were playing at the 'Chat Qui Peche' club that is now a greek restaurant. I don't recall having heard Larry Young play organ while he was in Paris. Thanks! Wish I had been able to hear him live.
  19. I doubt this could ever happen due to licensing issues; the same reason the sets go OOP in the first place. That may be a possible option down the road for future sets however, the same way they eventually offered CDs as opposed to only LP sets.
  20. Me Too!! Dgtrane was the one one turmed me into a Weston fan a year or two ago. Thanks David! Now I'm embarrased! Barak, I owe you an email and need your address. How are you doing my friend?
  21. I picked it up for my wife. It's not bad but found that every song sounded the same to me. As my wife agrees with this assessment, I doubt I'll be hearing it around the house too often.
  22. Gosh, I'm blushing! It is rewarding to know that with all the great music you've turned me onto (most recently Eddie Condon) the last 4-5 years or so, I've been able reciprocate in even a small way.
  23. Great article. Thanks for the link. Re: Tapscott autobiography - Read it some 6 months back. Really a wonderful book. After reading I had a much better understanding of what Tapscott was all about and why he spent most of his career in L.A., leavng him relatively unknown outside of that community. I can talk for hours about Tapscott and Weston, who I list as my two favorite pianists.
