  1. here ya go mates - this is all ya need!
  2. Thanks guys for the responses. I need a little editing help from a moderator again :blush2: . The date i am looking for is July 7, 1968 - not 1967 - 2 days after the date that the above album was recorded. much thanks!
  3. first let me say - i do not know if this even exists. I read about it in Whitney Balliett's book. July 7, 1968 Ramsey Lewis opens. Then a vocal trio called the "Sound of Feeling" folowed by RRK for 6 numbers!!! Next comes Don Ellis with a 19 piece band. and Finally the Ray Charles concert begins. First a dozen numbers by his big band. next his vocal quartet (the Raelets) followed by Billy Preston. and then Ray! he performs 17 numbers including his anthem (Georgia on my mind) Marie, Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby! other numbers include Let's go get Stoned, You are my Sunshine and finishing off with What'd I Say! I really would love to hear this concert. Any ideas if i can make this happen?
  4. The manager (owner?) of Christy's was named Eddie Curran. He recorded a number of sessions at the club. The Bird/Wardell date was first issued on Charlie Parker Records in the early 1960's. Curran also recorded several other jam sessions, some of which were slated to be released on the Zim label sometime in the 1980's, but Zim records ceased operation and never issued them. I believe the recordings were made on paper-backed tape. I agree that, considering the circumstances, the sound on this session is quite adequate. WOW thanks jack! I wonder where the other Curran recordings are! Mebbe a treasure trove waiting to be found!!!
  5. oooops! my bad on the spelling! :blush2: Can a moderator please fix for me - i can't figure out how to edit it! thanks brownie for the article!
  6. Yes -- they were caught up in a mad, passionate love affair. In the forthcoming movie "D.O.A. In The Desert," Grey will be played by Will Smith and Lansky by Richard Dreyfus. but seriously. . .
  7. My latest interest is tenor great Wardell Gray. I am curious as to whether the true circumstances of his death were ever discovered. Reportedly he was found in the desert with a broken neck. This does not sound like a "drug related" death. He was also reputed to be involved with Meyer Lansky! Can anyone please shed some light on these matters for me? much thanks!!
  8. does anybody have any information as to who recorded the christy's session and how it was recorded (on what was it recorded?)
  9. what music will be included that is not readily available elsewhere?
  10. and from this thread as well!
  11. All this music is easily and cheaply available on CD except for Third Stream Music which was reissued by Wounded Bird in 2002 and is no longer available. So what am I missing here.......isn't the idea of a mosaic set to include OOP or previously unavailable on domestic CD music as a majority of their content.....but virtually ALL of this music is currently in print domestically in the states and easily available. Mosaic needs to shelve this and get back to work on that SAM RIVERS SET they had planned for November......most of this MJQ music is available on Wounded Bird, Collectables and Atlantic WEA. i agree 100%
