Just watched it on DVD. I enjoyed the universality of the movie. The story was done in Romania but could have been done in Canada or many other industrialized countries.
Basically it is the story of a guy who doesn't know it but is gravely ill and instead of having a system where people who care for the patient and the sick, we have a series of vignettes where everybody fails him because the because they prefer moralizing him, they have other emergencies, they're stuck in bureaucracy, or they rather play power games with their subbordinates. The scene in the hospital where the people refuse to operate him is as cold and cynical as it gets.
I think this film should be required viewing for anybody who works in hospitals. Not because i think people work that way, it remains a movie after all. But because it reminds us that we're talking about a business about human beings and in the grand scale of things it seems to get lost for the profit of more petty affairs.
