Probably the Ellington and whatever hits the last chance, at least if i don't like the music too much, i could try to trade for one of the already oop stuff that i nevet got the chance to buy.

It reminds me, i saw Marc Copeland playing solo at the Upstairs club in Montreal. Not only we had people talking throughout the first set, during the second set, it was better, however people preparing the drinks were making every kind of noise doing their stuff. At a certain point, i think Copeland lost it, you thought they were doing a show with a synthesizer à la Sun Ra.

Great thread, it's one of my pet peeves . I don't understand it either. They pay 40 bucks to assist the show and they can stop yapping throughout it. What's wrong with these people, do they have the attention span of a three year old, do they think they are more important than the act on stage. Don't they have any respect for the people around them. If at least they were doing it in a discreet fashion instead of acting like they were in their fuckin' living room. If you want to pass a nice evening to chill out with friends or your girlfriend don't do it where there is a live act playing and people have paid to see it.

horrible album covers - great music

Don't know gow to put a picture, but Harold Danko's After the rain on Steeplechase is awfully cheesy. The cover of L'incroyable vérité of Sebastien Tellier almost made me not buy the record. A guy that looks Demis Rousos is not a good to put on a cover. -
is this heaven or what?

Anybody saw Pilc, saw him solo last year, he was very impressive. -
Bought a few volumes of the Complete Motown singles series, only started listening to them so i can't really comment on the music so much. So far i bought the volume 3,4,5. Gotta say they're class with the 45 rpm record and the beautiful booklet with interesting liner notes about every song on the boxset. In short a fine piece of collection for those who are interested in that stuff. Anybody else has them and wants to share their impressions ?

Saw this film this weekend in a movie festival that shows videos and movies related to the arts. Very interesting stuff with plenty of footage of Jarrett in many periods (With the Scandinavians, his classic trio, solo, with the American Quartet, in the Davis band and with Corea). Jarrett who never came out as a likable man and does not appeal to us in this video either. However you get a glimpse of how important music is for him and how his world revolves around it. Don't remember who said it during the film but he resumed pretty well Jarrett by saying . The subtlety of communicating that he is not able to pull through in real life is communicated inside his music. We watch the late Dewey Redman commenting about the work he did with Jarrett and Ornette Coleman explaining he had a lot more freedom with Coleman while with Jarrett he basicallly did what Jarrett wanted him to do. On the other hand Jarrett explains about the work of that period that to him the other musicians brought the music to another level by bringing their own input. I guess thay don't have the same recollection of their work. By the way, in the video we see an interview with Scott Jarrett, brother of you know who, who looks like the long lost brother of Weird Al Yankovic.

If you enjoy old time french music with guys like as Jacques Brel, Yves Montand, Claude Nougaro and many others. There is a budget boxset series called a little pompously the 100 greatests songs by any of the singers named above and many more that is very well done if you want at a cheap price stuff for certain singers. Sound is quite good and the set takes very little space on the shelves, the only negative would be the lack of information about the musicians involved and the source of the recordings. But worth it for the music especially if you don't own anything by them it's a great inexpensive introduction. Foud this link but they surely are many more. http://www.amazon.fr/Plus-Belles-Chansons-...d/dp/B000IMV482

On Verve you can find also the gig with Rubacalba and Motian and my favourite of them all with the Liberation Music Orchestra that included in the lineup, Ernie Watts, Ray Anderson, Joe Lovano, Geri Allen and Tom Harrell among others.
